The rain was just beginning to fall, though the ground was still soaked from the last storm. In most places, the flowers were now wilted due to being overwatered by the rain, and everypony was inside. All except one, a Pegasus named Storm Cloud. He sat there, on a tall hill outside Ponyville, and he wondered. "Storm Cloud, is something wrong?" Asked Silver Bloom, after noticing Storm Cloud sitting alone why she was going home. "I'm fine, Sil. I was just thinking about some things." Replied Storm Cloud. "What were you thinking about?" Asked Silver, sitting beside him. While the rain was falling faster, she decided she couldn't leave him alone. "It's been seven years since my mother died. It's been longer since my father left us. Today, according to what my mother said, would be some years since he did. I was just wondering why he left." Answered Storm Cloud.

"I know how you feel. Dealing with losing your parents is never easy." Said Silver Bloom. "I understand that. It's why we planted those flowers last year, isn't it?" Asked Storm Cloud. "Yeah. I think maybe we planted them on this same day, too. We should decide when to plant the next ones." Answered Silver Bloom. "How about, for now, we go and see if their all right, during this rain?" Asked Storm. Silver Bloom agreed that it was a good idea, and the two went to check on the flowers they'd planted together last year.

Walking into the clearing, the Pegasus and the Earth pony found he flowers were protected from the rain by the leaves overhead, and were glad for that. "My mother died too, Storm Cloud...and my father. I know what it's like to lose them." Said Silver Bloom. "If you don't mind me asking, Sil...how did they...?" Asked Storm Cloud, finding himself curious. "Well...they were away from town for a week, selling the flowers we all grew together elsewhere. They told me to look after the remaining flowers until they came back, and one day, while I was doing just that...a pony came to the house from a hospital, one outside of Ponyville, and told me what had happened. They'd been travelling to another part of Equestria, along a mountain road. Though it was raining, they were in a hurry to get to the next town, so they could get back to me faster. But there was a landslide, and...they didn't make it out." Explained Silver Bloom. Storm Cloud felt very bad about having Silver tell him that, and seeing that she was upset, he pulled her in close. "It was insensitive of me to ask you about it, Sil, I'm sorry. But don't worry. Even if you miss them, remember I miss my parents too. In that sense, we both have the same problem. But that means we can get through it, together. If you feel like there's nobody there to protect you, Silver Bloom, then just come and look for me, and I'll keep you safe. I promise." Said Storm Cloud. Silver Bloom found herself smiling slightly, though she was still sad at remembering her parents. "And I'll always keep you safe too, Storm Cloud." Said Silver Bloom. "Then it's settled. We'll always stay together, the two of us." Said Storm Cloud.

The rain had stopped falling now, and on that tall hill outside Ponyville, a Dandelion and a Rose were now steadily beginning to grow, and two ponies watched as the sun came up that day. "I don't think I've ever seen a sunrise, Storm Cloud. I always wake up too late." Said Silver Bloom. "Me too. But now, since we've just planted these flowers, we have time to watch it together." Replied Storm Cloud, glad that he'd cheered up his dearest friend.

"Storm Cloud..."

"Yes, Silver Bloom?"

"I'm glad...that we can be friends."

"Friends, Silver Bloom? We're more than that."

"Really? What are we?"

"We're true friends...and true friends will always be together."

"Always...together..."

"Of course. Just like we always have been. Do you agree?"

"Yes, I do. We will always be together!"
