"Keep up Re'enri. I know the cold is bothersome but we have wares to sell." The large Khajiit growled lowly at his slow companion.
"I'm trying Madr'ean. I wish to go back home." The crossbreed responded in a whiny tone. The two had been wandering the roads of Skyrim for about a day, already missing the warm sands of Elsweyr. Madrean's bag was packed heavy with the goods to sell and Re'enri was carrying the food. They were on their way to set up near Windhelm. It wasn't much longer until they heard the sounds of a fight.
"Stay here." Madr'ean warned Re'enri as he readied his steel war axe. He moved slowly towards the sound but was ambushed by an Imperial soldier. He took a hard blow to his legs, forcing him to fall to is knees. "RUN!" He yelled out to Re'enri. The lizard cat hesitated a little but soon bolted the opposite direction. He ran out into the wilds until the snow began to cover his feet. He became lost... and alone... and cold. He had no map, as that was Madr'ean's job, though he knew he was close to Dawnstar. Madr'ean had mentioned that was where they will first stop and rest there before continuing on.
"I just need to find the path again. Hopefully there will be someone to point me in the right direction too." Re'enri hung his head and took a few steps forward. "Oh but what if there isn't. I wouldn't want to die out here." He sharply shook his head and swallowed his breath. "No I can't think like that. I must keep going and hope that Madr'ean makes it." He picked up his pace and made it back to the path. "I doubt I want to head back to that spot just yet. Maybe I should sit down. I'll just use flames and cook some food. Hopefully there is still some fish in the bag." Re'enri smiled a little bit as he brushed off a bit of stone. The small half breed lit up his hand and used a twig to hold a chunk of fish over the flame. "This should warm me up a bit." He cheered to himself before taking the first bite of his snack. "Mmm. Nice and tasty too." He looked and scanned the path. "Oh there's a person! I wonder if they'll help me." He quickly downed the rest of the fish and packed up. As he ran up to the figure he noticed they were a dark elf. He felt a little nervous, as he's been told stories that they don't like the Khajiit, much less Argonians, and he was both! He waved nervously when he was a little closer, his mouth stretched into a nervous grin.
"Can I help you?" The dark elf asked, seemingly confused. Re'enri hesitated.
"I'm uh... a bit lost. Could you point me to Dawnstar please?" The dark elf shook his head.
"I just came from that way, it isn't too safe and you've not even a bow."
"I use magic!" The kitten hatchling growled and looked away from the elf in front of him.
"I saw your flames, and they looked pretty weak." Re'enri felt the sneer in the elf's voice and he let out a loud huff. "I'm headed to Windhelm, not the best place for me to be but I learned my sister is living there. You're welcome to travel with me." Re'enri smiled joyfully as they began to walk.
"That's where Madr'ean and I were going to set up our shop!" The dark elf smiled worriedly.
"Where is this, Madr'ean?" Re'enri hung his head low.
"He... got caught up in a battle of some kind. An imperial soldier had knocked him to his knees. I don't know if he is alright." He felt a tap on his shoulder.
"They probably thought he was a stormcloak soldier. Maybe they'll let him be when they figure out he isn't." Re'enri lifted little bit of a smile.
"I hope." The two continued walking the path for a while in silence. The snow crunching beneath their feet and the cold air whistling past their faces. Soon the Winterhold college was in sight.
