Hello, Rolling Girl here! This is my first story so if there's anything I need to work on, please tell me. I don't own the Inheritance Cycle or anyone it it, but I do own the Ocs. I'm sorry if they seem a bit Ooc. Well, that's all I have to say, Enjoy~!
Everyone was in panic. Women and children were screaming and the men were fighting. The urgals were tearing apart everything in their way, killing anyone they come across. Men, women, the elderly, even the children!
"Rose!" A shrill call can from one of the houses. A peachy haired girl who looked no more than 14 years old came running, clutching some cloth tightly against her chest.
"Yes mother?" the girl said breathlessly, her green eyes filled with panic.
"Where's your father?" A sickly looking elf said packing food and water, her messy black hair tied up in a scraggly ponytail.
"He's out fighting the urgals." The girl replied. Just moments after those words left the girl's lips, a man with peachy hair, similar to the girl's, came running into the tent. The elf, surprised by the sudden entrance of the man, pulled her daughter behind her and drew her dagger, ready to attack the intruder. Her stance relaxed a bit when she sees who the man is.
"About time you showed up." the elf said.
"We ready to go? We need to get mo-!" he was cut off when a spear suddenly protruded from his gut. He fell over, gasping for breath, dark green eyes looking up in shock.
"Daddy!" Rose yelled and ran out from behind her mother and to her father. She crouched next to her father's body and laid her hands on it, giving it a shake. "Daddy?" She said though tears.
The ground crunched outside of the door, causing Rose to look up in alarm. She screamed as an Urgal reached down and grabbed her. It yanked her head back by her long peachy hair and cut a long jagged, bloody smile on her neck. Rose gurgled and thrashed around and blood spewed from her wound.
"Jierda!" The elf cried in shock and alarm, flinging a small hand out at the urgal. The urgal's neck snapped back with a sickeningly loud crack and it fell over. The elf ran over and knelt over her dying daughter. Dropping her dagger, she placed her shaky hands on the wound and said,"Waise heill!"
The cut in her daughter's neck started to knit slowly back together and the skin grow back, leaving a large, jagged, pink scar where the cut had once been. The breathing of her daughter evened out slightly and her mother sighed in relief. She then slumped over to catch her breath, the after effect of the sickness retuning.
Pulling herself up, she hurried to her husband and knelt next to him. She placed her fingers on his neck, checking for a pulse. Tears of grief fell from her dark brown eyes as she found no signs of life.
She pulled herself up and with shaky arms, she picked up her daughter gingerly. She used her small foot to close the front door. She hurried over to the living room and leaned her daughter on the far wall. She then rushed back over to the front door and barricaded it with some very heavy and large objects. She made her way back to the living room and to the rug in the center of the room. She rolled the rug back, reveling a door. She pulled the door open and dumped the supplies she was packing earlier into it. Loud thumping from the door told her that she had to move faster. She Picked up her daughter and a nearby blanket and jumped down into the hidden room. She laid her daughter down on the floor and covered her with a blanket. She tucked her in and gingerly caressed the side of her face, tucking in a stray lock of hair as she did so.
"Rose, my dearest Rose, Mother loves you. I am sorry, so sorry," she sobbed "that I won't be there to watch you grow up, to be there when you are married, to watch your children, my grandchildren, grow up. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry..."Tears feel from her eyes as she kissed her daughter good-bye for the last time.
She used her elven abilities to jump out of the room, closing the door, she stood before it with a determined look. Using the last of the strength and life, she cast a spell on the door. "May no enemy of my daughter be able to open this door! Only those with good intentions and my daughter herself open it!" After those words left her mouth, a faint glow had appeared on the door. The elf feel over, her life leaving her body. She watched as the door of the house burst open, three urgals charging into the house. She smiled faintly. "I hope...you all... rot..." she sighed softly and died.
Rose twitched and blinked her eyes open. Her eyes took a moment to adjust to the dark. She pushed herself up into a sitting position, the blanket slid off of her. Hm? What's this? I don't remember going to sleep. ...Where...Where am I? She wondered. She didn't know where she is and how she got in a windowless room filled with supplies. The last thing she remembered was her mother's face leaning over her crying. She gasped. The urgals! She thought. Where are mother and father? Are they dead? … Are the urgals gone? Are they still here?
She got up slowly, staggering a bit as she forced the cramped limbs to obey her. She staggered around looking at the things in the room. She found some clothing and weapons. She equipped the twin dagger sheathes with the daggers in them. She found a pair of silver cuff that went from her wrist to her elbows and put them on. They had a scale like pattern on them. How long have I've been out?
She yelled out. "Mother?" and noticed no sound coming out. She screamed but it came out and as a hissing sound. She felt around her neck and felt a scar going across the top right of her throat to the bottom left. That cut must have severed my vocal chords. Her breathing started to accelerate. She started to tremble and shake. She staggered and fell, catching herself at the last minute on a near by wall, as did her heart. Breathe, Just breathe. In...out...in...out. That's it, your okay... She repeated this to herself until her breathing was calm and steady once again. Taking another minute or so to get over her panic attack, she got back up.
She continued to root around and found some clothes next to a sandy colored stone. It was a light brown shirt with no sleeves made of slightly rough cloth. There was also a matching pair of pants and wrappings. She also found a leather chest piece that was neither to thick nor too thin under the stone. She picked up the stone and examined it. It's a beautiful little thing. The sandy colored stone had a darker shade the sandy color running along the stone, giving it a veined appearance. She placed it down and put the chest piece on.
Rose went to go examine the small bunch of supplies. There was a lot of dries fruit, along with jerky and slightly withered fruit. She picked up a withered apple and looked at it. These apples... Mother and I went apple picking the other day. They look about... three days old! Oh my... The apple dropped from her hands. She fell to her knees and hugged herself as she cried. It's been three days! She started to feel faint. Oh no I wont! She growled to herself and shook her head. I will absolutely NOT faint! She shook her self out of her mood and went to look for a bag to put the supplied into. After I get these supplies, I will need to get out of here. I will try to locate my parents, and then leave.
She found a chest and opened it. It it was a large amount leather and a decently sized leather bag. She picked up the bag and dusted it off. She was walking back to the supplies when she noticed the stone hod moved from where she placed it. She eyed it suspiciously and moved on. She stopped in her tracks when it gave a faint squeak. Rose jumped, surprised by the sudden sound. She crept towards it cautiously, a hand on one of her daggers. The stone started rocking back forth, squeaking as it went. Then, small crack appeared, followed by more cracks and loud squeaking. A piece wobble at the top of it, it then rose and toppled on the floor, followed by a sandy colored head with dark brown stripes popped out, followed by a weirdly angled body a few moments later. Rose froze where she was as it was licking away the membrane that used to encase it. A dragon! She thought in surprise. Roses' mother used to tell her tales about the dragons and their riders at night. To think that one would hatch for her! What an honor! She step forward and it snapped its neck around to look at her. She held out a shaky hand and her touched her forefinger its head softly. A blast of ice cold energy surged into her arm, burning up her arm and through her body like liquid fire. She lets out silent screams of pain and fell onto her side. She felt numb all over. She sat for hours, darkness treating to over take her, until warmth slowly started to seeped back into her limbs, leaving a nice tingling feeling. She looked at her hand and found a shimmering diffused oval in the middle of her palm. She felt something brush against her conscious, like a whisper on the wind. It was a tendril of thought through which she felt intense huger.
Rose propped herself up and got up on her shaky legs. She walked over to the pile of supplies and retrieved some dried meat that she cut up with one of her daggers and placed on the floor for the dragon. Now that she had a dragon to look after. This cuts the amount of food she has for herself by more than half. She will have to feed it and take care of it for the next few months until it's ready to hunt and take care of itself, she had to also pack all of the meat instead of all of the fruit, leaving a small amount of room for her fruit, just to make sure she had enough food to feed it. Rose ate the food that she did not pack.
After she made sure that her dragon was full, she put on a large cloak she found lying around and the traveling pack. She felt around blindly on the walls and the floor for a door. The dragon occasionally winding between her feet, causing her to trip every now and then. She eventually go tired of this and placed it in the hood of her cloak where it lay it's cute little head contently on her shoulder. She felt around on the ceiling and found the outline of the door. She gave it a push and it flew open with a bang. Bright light came and hit her in the face. She squinted her green eyes and shielded them with her hand.
Once her eyes had adjusted, she crouched down, checked that her dragon was not going to fall out of her hood, and leaped out of the cellar. She crept through the house slowly, making sure not to make a noise and looking for any sign of her parents at the same time. There was no sign of them. She mad her way to the foyer and noticed that the front door was broken down. She peaked her head out the door cautiously, checking it the coast is clear. Her dragon gave a squeak, right next to her ear, causing Rose to jump and unsheathe the twin daggers in a flurry. Seeing that there was no one around, the turned and gave the dragon an unamused look and put her finger to her lips. The dragon looked at her with amused orange eyes.
Rose sneaked out of her house and snuck off to the entrance of Yazuac. Rose turned the corner and came face to face with an urgal. She let out a silent scream of surprise and turned and ran. The urgal ran after her. It's heavy footsteps thundered loudly after her. She turned another corner and almost ran into boy on a bay. It reared and Rose dodged to the left to avoid it's flailing legs and the urgal ran tight into him. He fell of his horse and grunted when he hit the ground. Rose looked in horror as she now had endangered the life of this boy.
The boy got on his horse and rode away, the urgal chasing after him. She looked around and saw another urgal was attacking an older man. There was a loud slap and the man doubled over. The urgal let out a cry of triumph and lifted ax for the death blow. The boy charged at it before it got a chance and dodged the attack the urgal swung at him. The boy clawed the urgal on the side, leaving bloody furrows. He led them both to an alleyway. Rose went to the man and calmed his horse to get a good look at his wound. She was examining it when blue wave came from the alleyway, dispersing slowly the father it got from the source. Rose got the white stallion to lay down as she rolled the man off the horse. She cleaned his wound and bandaged it. When she was done, she went looking for the boy. She found his bay prancing nervously around the boy. She grabbed it's reigns and calmed, patting it's side affectionate. Her dragon leaped out of her hood and sniffed at one of his gloves. Rose picked up her dragon and put it back in the hood of her cloak. Rose was deciding whether or not to investigate the glove her dragon was sniffing when boy staggered to his feet. He looked at her warily.
"Who are you?" He asked.
