Based (loosely) on the hat scene from "Dancing Through Life". I took a few...liberties...with the words and stuff. Enjoy!

"We deserve each other, me and Boq!" Nessarose glanced up at Elphaba imploringly. "Please Elphaba, try to understand."

The green girl looked skeptically at her sister. Desire and defiance was clearly written in the crippled girl's eyes, and Elphaba reluctantly nodded.

"I do,"

"Oh Elphaba! Elphaba!" The voice of her perky roommate grated on her ears and she wheeled, meaning to belabor the blonde with sarcasm until she burst into tears or ran away. Preferably both.

Then she turned and the breath caught in her throat. Galinda was breathtaking, her usual poofy pink dress replaced by a sleek, smoky blue gown. Honey colored hair cascaded in gentle curls over her shoulders. Elphaba blushed darkly and mentally berated herself.

Now don't start this nonsense again, she's your roommate for Oz's sake. And a girl. You are not attracted to her.

"Listen, Galinda, Nessa and I were just talking about you--" She began. The gorgeous blonde in question cut her off.

"And I was just talking about you! I thought you might want to wear this hat to the party tonight," Seemingly from nowhere, Galinda produced a tall, pointed black hat.

Elphaba stared at the hat for the moment, back at Galinda, and down at the hat again.

"Galinda, I 'm not going to the party tonight," She protested weakly. "I really need to get some homework done, and I think I have better things to do with my time than dance around with some dimwitted lug,"

"Oh, come on! It won't be a party without you!" Galinda pouted. "It's just one night, Elphaba! Please please please?"

"Fine, I'll come." The emerald girl scowled. "And stop grinning like that, will you? I'm not wearing that hat."

"Oh, come on! It's the latest fashion in the Emerald City!" Galinda moved close before Elphaba could reply, breasts pressing against the green girl as she set the hat on her head.

"It's really, uh...sharp! Don't you think?" She positively glowed. "You know, they say that black is this year's pink,"

"Right," Elphaba felt her face flushing at the other girl's attention.

"You deserve each other, this hat and you!" Galinda patted her shoulder. "You're both so...smart!"

Elphaba suspected that if she blushed any more she would pass out due to blood rushing to her head. Smart. She thinks I'm smart. She likes me! Her brain turned cartwheels.

"So here, out of the goodness of my heart!" Galinda gave the hat a final tug to get it into place, then flounced off towards that thick prince...what was his name? Started with an F... (Or was it an H?)

"I'll expect you at the party by nine, Elphaba!" The blonde beauty turned and gave her a final wink before linking arms with the prince and trotting away.

Elphaba stood stock still in the center of the room, mouth slightly open, clutching at the hat that Galinda--Galinda--had given her. A small snort beside her shook her back into the world. She had totally forgotten that Nessa was in the room.

"It's not even funny how much you're crushing on that girl." Nessarose said dryly.

"I'm not...I'm, uh..." Elphaba crossed her arms and glared. "I'm leaving now."

Nessa watched in mild amusement as her sister stalked regally from the room.

"I was never that bad about Boq," She whispered, before turning her mind to her dress for the dance.
