Setting: Episode III Revenge of the Sith

"Obi-Wan, is Anakin alright?"

The effort it took to ask that question seemed to sap what was left of her strength and Padme fell back into unconsciousness.

Light was everywhere. She looked around, trying to figure out where she was, but couldn't see anything, not even the ground she knew she had to be standing on.

Then a voice started speaking. It came from everywhere, and nowhere.

"Daughter of light. The one you love is not alright. Whether or not he ever will be again is up to you."

Padme spun around, searching for the source of the voice. "How can I help Anakin?"

The voice continued as if she hadn't spoken. "Two paths are before you. If you take the first one, things will continue as they are. If, however, you choose the second path, when he is given another chance to make his choice, he will choose rightly."

Even without seeing it, Padme knew a fork in the road had been placed in front of her. She took a step towards the right, towards the path she instinctively knew would save Anakin. Then she stopped, one hand going to her stomach as she sensed that once she started down this path there would be no going back.

"What about my child?"

"Your children will be kept safe and protected." A pause. "They will be loved."

Padme nodded once, a jerky motion. Then, squaring her shoulders, she started walking again, towards her destiny. The light around her grew more intense.

"...For reasons that we can't explain, we're losing her..."
