As the three friends tended to their own tasks in the lab, Rhodey heard Pepper quietly sigh and turned from the large computer to see Pepper next to him, arm resting on the table and head resting in hand. He rolled his eyes and saw that Tony had gone to retrieve a wrench from the table near Pepper and pushed her over into him, a smirk forming on his face.
Pepper bumped into Tony, their noses crashing a little and their lips almost meeting. Tony, in shock, took a step back in shock. He was speechless. He didn't really know why, either. He knew being real close to a girl he actually liked made him nervous, but he knew he didn't feel that way because he was still in the stage of denying it. We're just friends, he would tell Rhodey. I don't like her that way.
But that moment changed everything. When she had been pushed into him, he felt something that he had never felt before. It was a warm feeling, yet it was very unusual.
And Tony, in this moment of nervousness, could not fathom the words he was supposed to say. And apparently neither could Pepper. She could not get the words to come out of her mouth. She stood there, looking up at him in surprise. Come on, stupid brain! Work with the lips!
"U-uh, s-sorry…" Pepper said nervously, taking a step back. They both had a bright pink rosy blush on their cheeks.
"No, it's okay…" Tony said as he turned back to his work. "I saw Rhodey push you anyways." Tony said with a smirk, as Rhodey silently cursed to himself for being caught. Tony and Pepper returned to their business, chuckling; Rhodey thinking of how he got them where they needed to be whether they knew it or not.
