Electricity crackled in the air surrounding him, lighting him up in flashes. He took a step forward hesitantly, reaching a hand towards her.
She took a step back, and he visibly winced at her reaction.
He parted his lips, clearing his throat before saying quietly, "I never wanted you to find out, not like this. I'm so sorry that you see me like this. I just wanted to be free with you, Kioka."
Kioka's eyes narrowed, burning with hate. "You don't get to call me Kioka, not anymore. Kaminari." She spat out his name like it were poison. "You're a criminal, a villain, and you decided that I would be your cover and you would just be using me to make sure you and your friends aren't sent to jail where you belong. I hate you, Denki Kaminari, and I won't hesitate to call the cops if you ever try to contact me again. Go. Now. Before I change my mind."
He sighed, his electricity dissipating. He turned to the side, his gold hair hiding the tears streaming down his face. He couldn't hide the break in his voice though, when he forced out a quick, "Alright, Jiro. Bye."
He moved past her, opening the door to their- her apartment and walking out of it for the last time.
Only once she heard the door slam behind her did Jiro let herself cry, falling to the floor and hugging herself tightly.
"Mommy?" came a voice from the hallway opposite the door.
'Oh, Nila must have woken when he slammed the door' she thought. She wiped her tears and put a shaky smile on her face as she turned to her daughter.
"Yes, honey?"
Nila took a step forward, fiddling with the headphone jacks coming from her ears. "Momma, where's Daddy gone? He... he was wearing his work outfit... He never goes out this late. Why, why were you crying? I don't want Daddy to go or you to cry... I don't like it when Daddy makes you cry..."
"Oh, honey... I'm so sorry. Daddy's gotta go away for work for awhile. I'm just crying because I miss him. I'm so sorry, honey, it was an emergency. Let's go back to bed, hun." Jiro took Nila's hand, and the two of them walked back to bed, snuggling together under the king-size sheets.
