To be poetic, one could say that Orihime was Ulquiorra's sun: the brilliant object that his universe revolved around.

That really isn't as beautiful as it sounds, though. If you were to gaze too long at the sun, you would be blinded. Be in its warmth too long, you would be burned. Come too close, you'd be destroyed by its heat. Go too far, and you'd waste away in the cold.

As he disintegrated, he realized that by her becoming his sun, he had condemned himself. His beautiful sun was not for him. He had come too close, and now he was dying.

But a sun also gives light and helps things grow, and her light had started his want for the understanding of the heart to grow. It had blossomed now, and as he found the heart, he understood. As his sun reached for him, sending him a last few precious rays, he was at peace.

AN: 157 words, first (published) fanfic...heh. I like it, even though it's short. Sadly, I've never completed a longer story.
Review, please? I'd most certainly appreciate it. If you like, I can make this a series of short UlquiHime oneshots.

"The walls are coming closer;
My senses fade away.
I'm haunted by your shadow.
I reach to feel your face;
You're not here.
Are you here?"
