I Remember
I remember there was mist
Swirling mist upon a vast glassy lake
There were candles all around and on the lake there was a boat
And on the boat there was a man…
Who was that shape in the shadows
Whose is the face in the mask?
I draw closer to my angel and sit on the bench next to him. I rested my head on the side of his arm. I ignored him as he tensed up.
"Angel, what are you playing?" He looked at me with eyes full of surprise in silence. "Angel?"
He suddenly shook himself as if to wake himself up. "Just a song inside my head."
"I think it's beautiful. Just like you!"
He gave a small snort then a sad smile. "My dear Christine, how can you think of me as beautiful?" He pointed at his mask. "This cursed face will taint anybody who sees me."
I quizzically looked up at him. "I don't care what you look like. It's what is inside that matters not on the outside. Your soul is pure and whole Angel." I reached out and rested my hand against his exposed cheek.
He shied away with an embarrassed look on his face. "No no no. Nobody can look upon Erik and think he is beautiful. He is a monster."
At the sound of his name my heart leapt. "Erik…" I let the name roll off my tongue and sighed.
Erik turned around and looked at me with tears in his eyes. "Christine you are so pure. You deserve a life of sunlight and happiness."
I shook my head. "No Erik. I could never see the sun again and die a happy woman if it meant staying with you forever. I love you Erik. I have ever since you first came to me when I was a child."
His eyes widened. "But what about the Vicomte? You have a wealthy, handsome young man who loves you."
I laughed. "I don't have any feelings for Raoul anymore. I used to love him as a brother but I have not seen him in over ten years. I've known you longer than I've known him. I love you Erik. I- I…"
"Yes?"
"I hope you accept my feelings." I whispered scared of his answer.
Erik's face instantly melted into a gorgeous smile. "How could I not accept that. I too love you Christine. You are my muse and shall be forever."
I clasped his hands and we faced each other surrounded by the beauty of the darkness. I slowly reached up and touched the corner of Erik's mask. He gasped then tried to lean back.
"Trust me Erik. Please." He relaxed a bit and I peeled back his mask. I set it down onto his organ and looked back up to him and smiled. "You are perfect in every way imaginable." I stood up and kissed his deformed cheek as tears streamed down his face.
"Thank you Christine. Thank you. I love you." Erik sobbed into my hair as he pulled me into an embrace.
"My Erik."
Hello! That was really short but I felt like writing something short and quick even if it's not that great. I hope you enjoyed the little bit of fluff though!
