I know it's not my best but it was written really quickly after my friend told me something tonight. Just friendship between the two in this. Let me know what you think :)
'Here we go again' Thought Jane as she heard Casey start their most common argument yet again.
"Jane why do you spend so much time with her?"
"Why do I spend so much time with my best friend? Is that what you're asking me?" Her voice growing hard and he arms crossing over her chest.
"Yes that is what I'm asking you. Jane I just gave up a high-ranking position in the army to come here and be with you and now you spend so much time with her." The sneer on the last word was what made Jane really snap.
"HER? She has a name Casey. Maura, is that what you meant?"
Casey, seeing he had overstepped tried to backtrack "Um, I know you two are best friends and all-"
Jane was having none of it and promptly interrupted him "Casey all you've done since you got back was clean and complain about Maura, do you have a particular problem with her?"
"Yes actually, I do! Jane, it's months since I've been anywhere near you and you wont give up your little 'routine' just to spend a little time with me!"
"Casey this is ridiculous! It's Maura! As a child Maura was neglected, she spent years on her own after that and then we found each other and neither of us were lonely anymore, now we both had a person, someone to rely on! We went through so much together! She had my blood on her hands more times than I can count! We went through Hoyt, Dennis, Bianchi. She comforted me throughout months of nightmares and me her. Hell we were on the sidewalk outside BPD with my blood all over her hands, we were trapped in a car with toxic water pouring in on us! When me and you have been through that much then you can say you have a problem!"
"Jane..." He stood there is a state of shock.
"No you don't get to just 'Jane' me and then stand there."
"I just want to spend some time with my girlfriend!" His voice was getting louder with each word.
"She has always been here, no matter what!"
"And I haven't?" He asked, genuinely shocked.
All Jane could do was scoff "How did I not see this before, you really weren't." she whispered, almost to herself "Look Casey, don't make me choose between you and her because there is only one answer."
"You choose me, right?"
"Never in a million years!"
"I think I should go back to Afghanistan."
"I think so too, now I am going to Maura's and you can gather your things. I guess I'll see you around?"
"Um yeah." Casey looked like he was in a mild state of shock and just looked around the apartment as Jane closed the door with a parting glance.
"Hey Maur." Jane greeted as the door swung open.
"Hey Jane, what do you want to- What's wrong?" Maura immediately knew there was something wrong with her best friend.
"Casey, we broke up." The brunette said as she crossed over the threshold.
"Oh I'm so sorry, what happened?"
"Don't be sorry." Jane said with a shrug. "It came to an ultimatum and there was a clear choice. I'm okay." The brunette gave a very convincing smile.
"What was it, if you don't mind me asking?"
"Him or you, there's no competition! You're my best friend, we've been through so much and I couldn't live without you!" Jane said it as if she was ordering dinner, as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
"Jane, I don't know what to say!"
"Just say we can have pizza for dinner!"
