It was an average day for Dean Winchester, who was currently in his dorm ditching class. He was studying at Kansas state university to become a doctor. His younger brother, Sam, was also attending KSU, staying in the same dorm, taking the pre-law course. Sam always wanted to attend Stanford and become a true lawyer. Dean wanted nothing more than to see his baby brother succeed and move on to become the best god damn lawyer in the nation!
Dean never was really good with school, always ditching and just barely getting passing grades. It was Sammy's job to be the good student. Dean was only in school to do his one passion, helping others. He wasn't the most stable character but what he lacked, he tried his hardest to make up by saving those around him. Most people took one look at him and would classify him as a grade A fuckboi just out to get sex. Which wasn't a complete lie but that wasn't all life was to him.
Dean laid on his bed lazily and through his window could see snow fall quickly to the ground. He peered over at his clock on his nightstand, Sammy would be back soon. He wondered if the kid had the common sense to take his jacket with him this time.

It had been sixteen years since their parents died in the car crash. Supposedly they had swerved off the road and hit a tree. When the paramedics got there the car was in flame and the bodies were barely recognizable. Since then, Dean has been Sammy's parental figure, watching over the boy all his life. They were lucky enough to get accepted into the same college, it saved money and they were able to stay close to one another.

Dean turned his head when he heard the door open. Sam was running late and he wondered if the boy had stayed after class to do homework. When he got a look at Sam. though, he was taken aback by what he saw. In Sam's arms was a big wet bundle of fur and Sammy was shaking like a mad man, having given his jacket to the large dog in his arms.

Dean jumped off his bed, "No. There is no way that thing is staying here!" He was never fond of animals and was even allergic to cats. But Dogs? They were big, smelly, and caused messes.
"Aw come on, Dean, it's the middle of winter. Do you want him to freeze to death?" Sam hugged the dog close. As if to add emphasis the thing whimpered at him. Dean swore, between the two of them he wasn't sure who worked the puppy eyes better.
Dean looked between his brother and the dog. The dog's eyes were big pools of blue that pleaded for the warmth the dorm provided. Dean sighed in defeat, he didn't like dogs but he wasn't about to become an animal killer. "Fine. But no naming him, he's not staying."
Sam's face lightened up and he fully walked inside the dorm. He busied himself with setting the dog on the bed and retrieving blankets to warm the dog up.
"I'll go get us something to eat." Dean said grabbing his keys while walking towards the door. Part of him hoped the dog would be gone by the time he got back.
"Get some dog food too, will ya?" Sam called after him. Great now he had to feed the thing too?

While Dean was away Sam focused on getting the dog's body temperature back to normal as well as getting some well needed water into his system. "Dean may seem like an ass but he's a softy. Once he warms up to you, he'll love you." Or at least Sam hoped. He had always begged Dean for a dog, had he not gotten into Law school he probably would have gone to school to be a Vet. If he could get Dean attached to this Dog he'd finally have the pet he's always wanted.

Dean returned home with two cheeseburgers and a small bag of dog food. Sam was sitting on his bed studying, with the dog curled up at his feet, sleeping softly under the blankets. Sam looked up as Dean placed the food on the small counter. Dean grabbed a bowl from the cabinet and scooped up some food from the bag before placing the bowl next to their mini fridge.
He sat down on his bed across from Sam's. He tossed one of the burgers to Sam, "how's the dog doing?"
"Okay, I guess. The shivering has stopped but he's still pretty under weight and it seems like he's dehydrated." Sam spoke his diagnostics.
"Have you gotten any liquids into his system?" Dean asked his doctor side taking over.
"Yeah, I've been making sure he drinks water." Sam said taking a bite of his food.
"I bought a few syringes, you should use those to hydrate him faster." Dean spoke taking his third bite already.
The dog slowly stirred to life, lifting his head up to meet Dean's gaze. His ocean blue eyes meeting Dean's forest green ones. The dog's tail began to wag and Dean swore he could feel the happy emotions radiating off the dog. Why were they always so damn happy? They were like little rays of sunshine and it bugged him.
After they were finished with their lunch Sam got up and walked over to the sink grabbing the syringes and filling them up with sterile water. "Can you give me a hand with this?" He asked dean.
Dean nodded and got off his bed and moved toward the dog who was still in his spot. The dog did not move just simply watched dean, tail wagging excitedly. "Want me to do it or hold him down?" Dean asked looking over at his brother.
"Just hold him down. I can do it myself." Sam said moving closer to them.
Dean slowly wrapped his arms around the dogs torso and neck to keep it from squirming. The dog relaxed under the touch, no squirming or whining like Dean would have thought. The rest of the procedure went by smoothly the dog cooperated well and everyone was back to doing there own things in no time.
The dog continued to watch dean, his eyes never straying unless Sam moved or a noise was heard outside.
Dean shifted uncomfortably under the gaze, for a dog those eyes were too intense, too human-like. "What's with this dog?" He finally spoke.
Sam looked up from his text book to the dog then Dean. He shrugged, "maybe he likes you?"
"Yeah, maybe." Dean never had a soft spot for any sort of animal so he always thought animals wouldn't have a soft spot for him. Looking at the dog he wondered if maybe he would be able to give the dog a chance like he knew his bother wanted.
The rest of the day was spent this way. Sam studying, Dean doing whatever, and the dog watching his every move so intently. When night came the dog felt the need to try to climb upon the bed but was quickly shooed off. "I may be letting you stay here for the night but there is no way I'm sharing a bed with your furry butt." He told the dog as it stared up at him, head slightly tilted. It watched him for a moment while Dean rolled on his side to get comfortable. Once it was sure the boy was asleep it went back to Sam's bed and curled up at his feet. That night, as they all slept, Dean got the dreams.
