A/N: Happy Birthday Sam Winchester! Here is my birthday one-shot. I hope you like it.

Sammy's Birthday

It's been so long since either brother has celebrated their birthdays. But today, Dean thought why not. They finally had a kitchen that would make Chef Gordon Ramsey weep, and Dean decided to make the hamburgers Sam had loved when he'd made them a few months back (and of course a pie) because there was no reason why Dean shouldn't reward his self as well. While Sam was in his room sleeping, Dean went out to the grocery store to get the much needed ingredients for the birthday lunch he was going to make Sam.

When Dean got back from the store, he was hoped that Sam was still asleep and not trying to locate Kevin. He was actually relieved when he saw Sam's laptop abandoned on one of the library's long, wooden tables. After putting the groceries in the kitchen, Dean went to Sam's room to check on him. Sam was still asleep lying in the same position he was before Dean had left. The older Winchester nodded and closed the door behind him and headed back to the kitchen.

He worked feverishly on making his list of things for Sam. He even stopped by the bakery and got a small cake and had them write on it; Happy Birthday Sammy! Once he was finished with the small meal, Dean decided Sleeping Beauty had been unconscious long enough and left the kitchen to wake him up. When he passed the library, he heard an all too familiar coughing and realized that Sam was already awake.

"I see you're up," Dean greeted, walking over to Sam who was sitting at the table looking at the laptop. Again.

"Yeah," Sam muttered, not even looking up at Dean.

"Okay," Dean said curtly, closing the laptop gently.

"Dean-" Sam started to protested but his brother interrupted.

"Enough," Dean said cutting him off before Sam continued his rant. "Come on."

"Where are we going?" Sam asked without any enthusiasm whatsoever. Dean grimaced, it seemed like his brother couldn't even muster up enough energy to be even a little curious.

"Not far. Come on," Dean said grabbing Sam's arm and escorting him to the kitchen, trying to ignore the fact that his brother's legs trembled like those of a newborn colt.

When they got to the kitchen, Sam's jaw just dropped. He couldn't believe what he was seeing.

"Dean," Sam managed that one word and the rest of his vocabulary dried up.

"Happy Birthday!" Dean exclaimed, stepping into the kitchen passing Sam.

There was a plate on the table with a couple of hamburgers and a mountain of fries, a small bowl of chef salad, and- the clincher that made a lump form in Sam's throat- the cake that sat in the middle of the table that read "Happy Birthday Sammy!"

"I don't know what to say," Sam said, his voice thick with emotion.

"Don't say anything," Dean chuckled, sitting down at the table. "Sit down. You hungry?"

Sam wasn't that hungry but he also wasn't going to let this awesome meal- that his big brother surprised him- go to waste either. He sat down across from Dean. Dean made up their plates and they ate like they did when they were younger. No television. No laptops. No hunting. Just two brothers enjoying a meal together.

"Happy Birthday, Sammy." Dean said quietly, sincerely, not even thinking about the fact that this might be Sam's last.

"Thanks Dean," his brother replied and looked happier than he had in a long, long time. Dean felt tears prick at the corners of his eyes and quickly looked down at his plate, glad that he could give them both this little ray of sunlight in their otherwise dark world.

The End

Be kind and give me the best birthday present ever; a review! They so make my day!

Many hugs and kisses!
