Chapter 1
It was a busy day at the bank and Bess, with her impatient ways was not helping. "Come on Nan,I'm going crazy here.I mean we cant waste such a beautiful day at a bank ,going over some shares or bonds or…..""Bess, for maybe the hundredth time they are not shares,they are my dad's…" YEA ,whatevere,I'll rather wait than have you explain again. I'm not gonna understand anyway. I'd rather be helping you solve a myst…oops,my bad sorry nan."
But the damage was already done. Nancy's beautiful blue eyes were already clouded and the bright sunshine smile had already left. Bess sighed sadly,boy I wish George was here,she could have handled things better than me! Her friend Nancy Drew was River Heights' famous ameature sluth . Bess & her cousine Georgina had helped her on many of her cases. But things had changed lately. Nancy and her boyfriend Ned had had a nasty breakup, the reason apparently being her interest in mystreis, which left no time for Ned(The fact that Ned was seeing the-new in town-stunning platinum blond didn't help either).Nevertheless,it had been quite a blow to ancy and for the first time in her life,Nancy failed to solve a case and a little boy ended up dead. There had been no cases ever since. Nor were there any boyfriends. Her father ,Hanna,her friends, everyone had tried to bring her out of low phase and failed. But they kept trying,and that's how Bess found herself accompanying Nancy to the bank on her father's law firm errand. The large shopping mall with a huge sale going and the brand new café just across the street were just fortunate coincidences.
"Nancy Drew for Drew & Bristo Law Firm " the anouncement startled Bess out of her had already entered the managers cubicle.
"Wow! That was some sale!Nan I'm absolutely broke and starving , so buy me some food,a load of it."Bess literally roared as she sat at the new café. Nancy couldn't help smiling"Bess,I thought you were on a diet!". "I took a day off." Bess replied without batting an eyelid.
But suddenly Bess blurted out. "Nancy I know things have been bad recently,but life must go on …. "Bess please … " No Nan just let me get this out ,please!You just cant run away from everything. You've got to have a life Nan. I've head enough crap about needing time & trying to forget,but,come on Nan ,its been 3 months. Ned has moved on & so should you. I'm not asking you to chase men ,but if something happens,promise me you'll give it a chance."Nancy sighed "Well...I...I'll try ...ok...Now...Don't give me that look..Bess...What is it?" Oh boy !THAT look!Bess definitely is upto something. "Nancy Drew you definitely are into something,that cute blond guy over the counter has been staring at you eversince we entered the cafe ." AARGH! Nancy groaned.
