Preface
As the sun began it's daily rise from the sky, the townsfolk of Yulogis awoke and started a new day. Most days you would hear the joyous conversations of thousands of hedgehogs all across the town. Topics such as news, gossip, or what dresses looked the most lavishing could be heard, among other things. But today was a special day. Today's choice of conversation among people was the Machinations Fair. Yulogis is one of 10 cities spread apart all over the country, with it's main attraction being the wondrous machines scientist created there, be they beneficial or just for fun. Indeed, the King himself said "Yulogis is a symbol for the future, a sign of things to come."
All sorts of contraptions littered Central Square where the fair was to be held. Steam powered engines that could make trains more efficient, new plumbing systems, and ways to filter dirty water. People from all over the country took part in this event, and oooh and awwed at the many spectacles before them.
Our story centers on one specific hedgehog, named Miles "Tails" Prower. At the curious age of 8, Tails took a obsessive interest in all the machines, even if some were rather pointless. He and his father have never missed the fair, with Tails first visit to the fair being at the age of 6 months.
Tails begun his point and talk diatribe as the walked down the street, surveying the machines.
"Look at all that steam, Dad!" cheered Tails, "Can such being things like trains run off of Steam?"
"Yes my son," replied his father. "Though from looking at the machine itself, I dare say it looks like the same model, only slightly modified."
It's still amazing though, thought Tails.
As they were talking down the street, Tails's father noticed a rather large crowd than usual gathered around something.
What could cause so much commotion? Thought Tails father, moving his hand towards his gun holster with a mental reflex born of too many close calls, being a high ranking officer in the Yulogis Guard.
Soon his thoughts would be put to rest, as the commotion was but of todays most sought at attraction: a flying machine. Rumors had spread long before the fair had started that somebody was creating a machine that could enable a hedgehog flight. The words "lunacy" and "insane", was often brought up when discussing these rumors, as many fought that a hedgehog flying was impossible, but as the saying goes, "Curiosity killed the cat."
