I own nothing.
The life he gave up so long ago he will take up again at the drop of a hat if she asks, and she is asking, so he does. Yukio hasn't got a clue what she's getting herself into, not this time, so that's all Ginji can do, follow close behind. Glower at all comers and tighten his grip on the hilt of his sword whenever he sees someone he thinks might be a threat.
Unless Yukio gives him leave or she is threatened, this is all Ginji can do.
Ginji knows the way the story ends for him: the old timer, however legendary, however strong, falls to the might of the younger generation. He's not old but he is; there is no honor and no decency left in this world and that is why he will fall. He knows the way the story ends for her as well: the naïve child takes more onto her shoulders than she can handle and she dies in a back alley or a whorehouse somewhere in Thailand, her dignity stripped bare to reveal of a creature of flesh and bone. Yukio is old but she is not, and this will be her downfall.
Death is the only way out for either of them and when faced with such a situation, Ginji has watched many an otherwise good and decent man abandon all principles and run. They abandon the ones they swore to protect and offer them up to the wolves, the ravening monsters, and get out with their skins intact and their souls and hearts blackened with sin.
He won't do that.
Ginji will give anything for everything and everything is Yukio. Yukio, young and fresh and utterly destroyed by the realities of life in this underworld.
He'll follow her into flame, into water, into cold steel and hard-packed earth.
He'll follow her into death, because there is nothing else left for him and nothing else left for her. He'll follow her into death because there's no place left in this world for either of them and he's too old and she's too young.
But in the end, she follows him.
