Hawaii Five-O belongs to another. I just hang around there. The story is a response to a fanfic challenge.

SNOW TRIP

Steve sighed and tried for the umpteenth time to tune out the argument that had been on-going the whole drive from the Five-O offices to the airport. Kono stared at Danny. "You're not really gonna wear that, Bruddah?" he questioned—again—as he took in his friend's turtleneck, jeans, and heavy hiking boots. "It's 80° here Kaikaina!"

"Yeah," the younger detective responded. "But we're going to Boston for a conference. In February. You know, winter?"

Kono's eyes took on a far away expression. "Boston. Pilgrims, Thanksgiving, turkey, sweet potatoes and marshmallows, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie and whipped cream . . . and lobster. Think we can get some of that?"

Steve growled as he felt a headache coming on. "Kono, you and Danny are going to a conference on the role of a special state police unit, not to every restaurant in New England. And I hope you brought something warmer than an aloha shirt. It won't be white sands. It will be snowing!"

"Never seen snow, Boss," the big Hawaiian grinned. Bet you could make some great shave ice with it." Danny groaned. This was Kono's first trip to the Mainland and he was as excited as a kid at Disneyland. It was going to be an interesting trip.

Steve smiled in relief as he bid goodbye to his two detectives. Kono and snow—what a picture that will make, he thought as he headed back to the office and, he hoped, a relatively quiet few days. He caught a wave from Danno as the two officers headed into the terminal.

Kono watched as Danny stuffed a heavy down jacket into the overhead bin. "You don't plan on wearing that, Kaikaina?" he questioned.

"New England. Winter. Snow. Freezing." Dan was getting tired, very tired, of explaining East Coast weather. How to describe winter to someone who'd never shoveled snow? Dan still had not-so-fond memories of digging his Aunt Clara's car out of a drift when he visited her a few years back. "Didn't you read the weather forecasts?" he asked his friend.

"Nope, Bruddah. Just the restaurant menus." Danny closed his eyes. It was going to be a long trip.

Several hours and two plane changes later, they touched down at a snowy Logan Airport. Kono's eyes were wide at his first glimpse of a real winter. He watched as Danny pulled on his warm jacket. "You bring one for me?" the big Hawaiian asked.

Danny grinned as he pulled an extra-large bright orange jacket from his bag. "Sure did!" he laughed. Kono's expression was priceless. "Danny, if you think I'm going to wear that, think again!"

"Only if you don't want to turn into a popsicle!"

Kono grabbed the jacket. "OK, Bruddah, but you owe me a lobster!"
