If there was anything that Lucifer loved it was watching Sam Winchester break. Watching that abrasive exterior crumble away and exposing that beautiful tender inside. Watching his tough shell melt away leaving that delicious vulnerability. witnessing someone so strong become so weak whenever he came around was sweater than any candy.
He loved the beautiful way Sam looses the color in his skin whenever Lucifer came around and it made him shiver with delicious tingles. The effect he had in the other man stirred something in the devil that he had believed had left him long ago. Something he had not felt since he fell from Heaven. What he had only felt for God.
Lucifer had tried to get close to the young Winchester but it wasn't something he couldn't convince Sam of. Sam refused to believe it was because he honestly had feelings for him. The hunter was sure he was only messing with him- another form of torture. Make him fall for the devil only for him to break his heart in the end. Lucifer had to know about the failure his love life had been after Jess's untimely death. How his job kept him from being with anyone for longer than a night and how Sam only wanted the apple pie life. He wanted to settle down and be with someone he loved versus the one night stands Dean live for. The fear that Lucifer would take advantage of that information worried away at the young man to the point he feared getting close to the hallucination. He thought if he ignored the devil he couldn't get attached. He couldn't believe he was falling anyway.
When he couldn't take being alone with Satan any longer and pressed on the open wound of his palm to make the devil disappear, he let the tears fall. He figured if he couldn't see the devil then the devil couldn't see him either. He let his tears flow freely thinking that he was alone. Sam Winchester, the true vessel to the king of Hell, was never alone. He didn't know that Lucifer watched that as well. He didn't know that all Lucifer wanted to do was comfort him but refused to allow him to get that close. Couldn't take the heartbreak he knew would come if he allowed things to escalate that far.
Lucifer was in love with Sam. He was in no way ashamed to admit it but the object of his affection kept him too far away. How could he get across to him? How could he convince the human that the devil did not lie, that he did not need to? That every word he whispered and every promise he vowed he would rather spend the rest of eternity alone in the cage than break? How was he supposed to convince Sam of his love and devotion?
Everything about the man was beautiful. The way he lied, the way he lashed out, his fear, his dispar, his strength, the way he crumbled... the list could go on and on but what really grabbed his attention was how no matter what he faced he was still Sam. He loved the way every lie and deceitful thing was nothing but Sam. No matter what he did he was always himself even if nobody else saw it. He can't hide anything from the devil for the devil knows everything about him. Every thread in his being, in his soul, was bared for Lucifer to see no matter how hard he tried to hide. After all, even if Sam refused to believe it, he belonged to Lucifer. He wasnt just his bunk buddie, Sam was his property. And one day the patience he had kept a hold of since the dawn of mankind itself would wear thin and he would come to collect what was rightfully his even if it was against Sam's wishes. He would eventually come around and Lucifer promised himself that he would teach his human the true meaning of the word Sin
