The beginning of a beautiful love story
Hello everyone of FanFiction. My name is Ricardo Mendez and I will be writing stories of Rio the movie. My stories will not contain lemons or inappropriate language. Please don't bother trying to convince to make a lemon cause I will not. Anyway, this is my first story. It is only one chapter but it is long and there will be sequels to the story.
It's based just after Blu had freed everyone from the cages on the smugglers' plane.
Well, I've talked enough. Enjoy the story.
Shortly after freeing all of the many captured birds from their cages, the two last birds of their kind; two blue macaws named Blu and Jewel were the only two captives remaining on the smugglers' plane.
"We've gotta go! Come one!" Jewel yelled, pulling Blu's wing with her own, determined to get out this plane as soon as possible.
"Wait, wait, wait!" Blu panicked, getting out of her wing and freezing in his steps.
Jewel wondered why for a split-second until she remembered Blu was still not being able to fly. Although they didn't see eye-to-eye at first, Jewel walked over towards him and tried to comfort him.
"Um its okay, hey, it's okay. We'll figure this out together, right?" Jewel soothed, comforting as she put her wing out towards Blu, finally treating him with kindness as a friend. Her comforting expression soon changed however when a familiar face was approaching. "LOOK OUT!"
Before Blu could act, he was pinned down by the strong cockatoo known as Nigel, who had kidnapped him and Jewel for his owners. He cackled while he held a solid grip on Blu's throat with his talon. "HAHAHAHAHA!"
"LET HIM GO!" Jewel demanded, flying rapidly towards the evil cockatoo in hopes of saving Blu. She clawed Nigel's back and tried to push him away, but Nigel was too strong and easily he pushed her back.
Nigel slammed Jewel away, making her hit the wall and falling down to the ground. The impact of her slamming the wall had cause cage fell down on her left wing, causing her to scream out in pain. "OW!"
"JEWEL!" Blu called out, worried for the one he has feelings for despite him not actually telling her that yet.
"Ow, my wing." Jewel cried out in pain, looking at her damaged wing trapped under the cage.
"Oh pity… " Nigel sarcastically pitted before turning his attention by to the blue macaw held under his talon. "Now we have two useless flightless birds."
Nigel then tightened his grip on Blu's throat, getting ready to either kill him or tighten enough to put him to sleep.
Blu moved his eyeballs down and saw the fire extinguisher and the cable on it which he used to escape. An idea popped into his brain. He stretched out his left talon grabbed the hook and pulled it back, struggling a little, but managed to put it on Nigel's talon.
"Huh?" Nigel said confused, looking down when he felt something touch his talon.
"Not cool man, not cool!" Blu said, before he pulled the pin out setting of the extinguisher off, pulling Nigel out from the plane and sent jim flying out of the plane screaming.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa… oh no!" Nigel panicked, before he noticed he got free but he saw the plane propeller's coming right at him and panicked. "AHHHHHH!"
Blu looked out the plane where he saw a couple of white feathers go past. However, his victory was short when the plane began losing altitude and was going to fall.
Jewel began slipping out from the back of the plane. She panicked as she tried to crawl back up with her good wing while he screaming out help to Blu. "Blu!"
"No!" Blu yelled, after he had just failed to save her. Before Blu could grab her in time, she fell out from the plane. He panicked as he watched her plummet towards the ground, desperately flapping one wing to fly.
Blu then realized he was going to die either way, so he did something stupid yet brave. He closed his eyes and jumped after her, not wanting her to die alone.
While he was falling, he had a flashback of when he was a chick falling from his tree. It seems like the same thing was going to happen all over again except he was not going to hit the ground but was going to hit the ocean instead.
Blu opened his eyes before screaming while he fell down towards Jewel and then without hesitation, he grabbed on to Jewel in his wings as they both slowly spun around falling in mid-air to their possible doom.
"BLU you're crazy, what are you doing?!" Jewel asked yelling, surprised and shocked about what he was doing that would make him jump after her like this.
"I'm not going to let you go! We're chained-to-each-other-birds, remember?" Blu reminded her, staring into her beautiful eyes which may be for the last time ever as they were now falling to their possible end.
Jewel couldn't believe what Blu just said as she finally realized he loved her. Shocked and touched by Blu's risk, she pushed her beak into his that lead into a passionate kiss.
Blu was wide eyed and surprised but he closed his eyes and enjoyed the kiss, finally being with the one he loves.
As they ended their first and possible final kiss, Blu felt his heart beating and beating a lot faster than usual. He let Jewel go in his wings, and gently gripped Jewel in his talons and extended his wings out from his sides.
He opened his eyes and what happened next was a miracle. Blu was flying! For the first time ever, he was flying! The kiss of Jewel had finally awoken his heart to the samba. Just like Rafael said "Feel the rhythm in your heart."
"Oh wow," Blu said, noticing he was flying as he looked at both of his wings while carefully holding Jewel in his talons.
"BLU, YOU'RE FLYING!" Jewel yelled out excitedly, not believing he was actually flying too.
"Yeah, your right, I'm flying. I'm not an ostrich! I'm not an ostrich!" Blu enthusiastically yelled out,
"Woo-hoo!" Jewel whooped, looking around the area until she noticed an obstacle coming ahead. "WHA!"
Blu had almost crashed into a cable car but quickly dodged and began to fly back to the airport, hoping he could find help for Jewel before her wing would be permanently damaged.
The two blue macaws looked at each other for a second before Blu decide to inquire he she was. "You alright down there?"
"Yeah, but my wing, it hurts. Please Blu, do something." Jewel pleaded, crying out of her eyes in fear that she may never fly again.
"Hang on, Jewel, we're almost there." Blu assured before continuing his flight towards the airport.
At the airport, the three humans Linda, Tulio, and Fernando were all upset about the loss of their blue macaw friends. Fernando who was resting on the wing of a plane saw something coming towards them.
"Linda!" Fernando said pointing to the sky. They all looked when suddenly they saw Blu flying down with Jewel.
"Blu? It's Blu, Tulio! It's Blu, and he is flying! My Blu is flying!" Linda smiled happily, seeing her faithful companion coming down towards her, never expecting she would see him again. Especially flying.
Blu landed near the humans and gently laid Jewel down on the runway on her good side, being careful not to hurt her wing any further. The three quickly ran over to them and Linda gasped as she noticed Jewel's wing broken.
"Here, let me see." Tulio said, offering his hands to Jewel, who got scared at first, still not trusting humans and shuffled a bit backwards, but relaxed when Blu put a wing on her and a smile, assuring her everything will be fine.
Jewel relaxed as Tulio gently picked her up in both of his hands. He talked calmly towards her so she wouldn't be scared any further. "Don't worry, I'll take care of you… we need to get back to the aviary now!"
"How do we get there?" Linda inquired, realizing that they can't exactly jog there.
"We have the float" Fernando reminded, gesturing his hand at the float that Linda almost destroyed when trying to stop the smugglers' planes
"Quick, get in the float." Tulio said.
They all ran into the float; Tulio gently put Jewel in Linda's hands and began driving back to the aviary. On the journey there, Blu was standing on Linda's shoulder happy to see her but looked at Linda with a confused face.
Linda noticed his confused face until she realized why he was confused. She began to explain to him why. "Oh the clothes, we had to sneak into Carnival to find you and Jewel."
Blu nodded and looked down at Jewel who was laying in Linda's hands, crying tears from her eyes in pain. Blu flew over onto Linda's arm and put a wing over Jewel. "Are you doing okay?"
"Yeah, but the pain, Blu it's unbearable, what if I never fly again?" Jewel answered, crying.
"Don't worry, Jewel, you'll be back in the air again. Don't worry, we'll be there soon." Blu replied, smiling of course to assure her that everything will be fine. But the truth was, he didn't know if everything was going to be fine. He would just have to wait...And hope.
Finally, they arrived at the aviary and quickly ran inside. Linda and Tulio got changed into their regular clothes and out of those ridiculous outfits. Tulio brought Jewel into the operation room while Blu was standing on Fernando's shoulder with Linda since Tulio requested they stayed there so he would concentrate without interruptions.
"Don't worry, I'm sure she'll be fine." Fernando assured Blu.
Blu gently rubbed his head against Fernando's face in response, despite the fact the young boy had kidnapped him for money, Blu bidden to ill towards him and forgave him.
"So, do you forgive me for taking you?" Fernando inquired, even know he knew Blu couldn't talk but he did look intelligent.
Blu flew over to a notepad next to the table beside him with a pencil and wrote a note to Fernando.
The young boy accepted the note and read it carefully.
No, I don't forgive you, I thank you, because of you I can now fly and now Jewel loves me.
"I hope she loves me anyway..." Blu thought, hoping that the kiss him and Jewel had shared was real and that it wasn't a heat-of-the-moment-thing.
In the operating room, Jewel was lying on the table while Tulio was looking for his stuff. As much as Jewel didn't want Tulio to attend her, she didn't really have a choice. Tulio then gently picked up Jewel and put her bad wing into a x-ray machine. Jewel got scared and made a weak squawk.
'It's okay, Jewel. Don't get scared, it's just scanning your wing, see?"
Tulio said as he showed the x-ray picture of Jewel's wing and showed it to her to assure her he knew what he was doing.
Despite Jewel hating humans, she had to admit that how he could see the inside of her wing was kind of clever. "Wow that's kind of clever."
"Okay Jewel, I have to start operating now, ready?" Tulio inquired, gently stroking her head feathers with his finger to keep her calm.
Jewel merely nodded in response slightly for him to understand as a yes. She was scared. Scared of what might happen to her. But the best thing she could do right now was to trust this human and wait, and hope.
After about an hour of waiting outside of the operation room, Tulio had finally came out from the operation room, holding the female macaw in both of his hands, and she now had a bandage wrapped around her left wing.
"How is she?" Linda inquired, hoping not for bad news.
"Well, there's good news and bad news. Good news is she's going to make a fully recovery." Tulio declared, that had made both Blu and Jewel sigh in relief before he announced the bad news. "The bad news is it's going to take some time. Her wing should heal in three weeks and it should take one more week in order to get its strength back."
Jewel sighed sadly in response, not believing she couldn't fly for four weeks.
Tulio had decided to put Jewel back in the artificial Jungle where Blu and Jewel first met. He opened the door to the way in and placed Jewel onto the ground and allowed her to walk away.
"You can go in too, Blu, if you like." Tulio offered, looking towards the blue macaw standing on his shoulder.
Blu smiled and did not hesitate to answer. He flew inside the artificial Jungle to give Jewel some company. After all, they may be there for a while.
Tulio left and closed the door behind him before locking it so what happened last time did not happen again. He decided to keep a close eye on them from the camera room.
Inside the artificial Jungle, Blu walked around inside, looking for the lovely Jewel to greet her and maybe give her some company. He smiled when saw Jewel staring into a pond, looking at her reflection. He greeted her while sitting beside her. "Hey, Jewel."
"Oh, hey, Blu." she replied, turning her attention from the pond towards the bird who had saved her.
"Are you feeling, alright?" Blu inquired, looking down at her broken wing that was now covered up with bandages.
"Yeah, I guess," Jewel answered before she sighed. "It'll be one month before I can fly again, Blu. Its barely been one day and I'm already going mad."
An idea jumped into Blu's brain. He smirked when he thought of something that may cheer Jewel up a little. Blu got up and flew into the air a little for the second time and positioned himself above her. "Maybe, I can help with that"
Jewel raised a curious eyebrow, wondering how he could help her. "What do you mea-whoa!"
Blu gently gripped Jewel in his talons and flew around the room as much as he could. Blu was enjoying his new flight ability while Jewel was giggling, finding this to be fun. After a few seconds, Blu put Jewel back down on the floor and set her down carefully.
Blu stood in front of Jewel and inquired on how the flight was and if you enjoyed it. "How was that, I know its not the same but-"
"It was fine, Blu, thank you." Jewel smiled, as she moved towards him.
Blu and Jewel shared a hug for the first time ever, even though she could only hug with one wing. Blu had never hugged someone like this and was beginning to feel nervous. He relaxed though and closed his eye, enjoying every second of having Jewel in an embrace.
After a few more seconds however, Blu broke the hug and had to ask her something important. Something he needed to know. Did she really love him? "Jewel?"
"Yeah?" she replied
"We are together now, aren't we?" Blu asked, a little fearful of what Jewel would do to him if she got angry.
Her answer however was completely surprising. She smiled while answering her now boyfriend or better yet, her husband. "Of course we are, Blu? Why do you think I kissed you?"
"Well, I thought that was just a moment-" Blu didn't get the chance to finish when Jewel quickly got him off from his sentence.
"No, Blu, it wasn't. I kissed you because I love you, you jumped after me, even though you couldn't fly just to be with me a couple of more seconds, that's the nicest and sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me, thank you." Jewel finished hugging him once again with her good wing.
"No, Jewel, thank you." Blu replied, also returning the hug to her.
"For what?" Jewel inquired.
"For giving me the ability to fly," Blu smiled.
"No problem, I'm sorry about our argument last night." Jewel apologized, remembering about the argument she and Blu had after Jewel had called him a "Pet", and when Blu "He hate's samba".
"Me too… speaking of that, what were you going to ask me?" Blu inquired, remembering Jewel was going to ask him something before he spoke first.
"Well, I was going to ask you to come to the Jungle with me." Jewel answered, that had left Blu a little shocked and surprised.
"You liked me then?" Blu asked, slightly confused that Jewel had feelings for him too.
"Yeah. Well, I didn't at first, but when we shared a dance, I began to like you. I wished we could of kissed at the club though." Jewel explained, snuggling her head against Blu's shoulder. "But you risked your life for me, and that's all that matters."
"Yeah. But to be honest, I was going to tell you I love you on the tram, but I ended up saying I have beautiful eyes instead of yours then I choked on a petal." Blu said which made Jewel chuckle a little in respond.
"I know." Jewel smiled, before she yawned a little after she had been up all night. "Blu, I know it's early but I could do with a sleep since we were up all night, coming?"
"Sure, do you want me to carry you?" Blu offered, releasing her out from his wings.
"No, no, I'll use those pegs." Jewel replied, turning the offer of being carried from Blu again.
Jewel made her way towards the tree; Blu however quickly ran in front of her and blocked her way. "Are you sure? I don't mind, honest."
Jewel shook her head in response and placed a wing upon Blu's chest. "No, Blu, It's fine, really. You go on ahead."
Blu turned around and took off and flew into the hollow while Jewel climbed up the pegs to get inside.
When they were inside, Jewel laid in the artificial nest to have a little sleep. She looked up where she noticed Blu was still standing there like he was a little nervous around her still. "Blu, are you coming over here?"
"Oh, um, sure." Blu answered, a little nervous around her still after their first meeting when she pinned him down and almost choked him to death.
He slowly approached her, still being cautious of what she may do if he was to get her angry.
Jewel watched as she waited for Blu to make his way over. When he was close within her reach, she extended out her good wing and pulled Blu down towards her while giggling a little. "Get your clumsy butt over here. I'm not gonna bite. Not after she saved my life, my hero."
"Uh, hero?" Blu quiered, not believing that he was a hero to Jewel. It was the first time he had ever done something brave like this. "Yeah, I guess I am a hero."
Jewel tucked herself up in her wings, laying on her side to get a little sleep. She turned around where she could see Blu, laying on his back, looking at the hollow's ceiling.
"I wish, he wouldn't feel so nervous around me." Jewel thought to herself before a smile crept on Jewel's beak when she had the perfect idea to make Blu feel okay around her.
Jewel began to shiver on purpose, hoping to get Blu's attention. Her plan was that he may think she was cold so that he would offer to keep her warm and then maybe he wouldn't feel so nervous around her.
As Blu was getting comfy, he turned around and saw Jewel shivering. Blu thought she would be cold since the a/c was on high.
"Are you okay there?" Blu asked.
"I-I-I'm c-c-c-cold." Jewel shivered as she tried to warm herself up, and also trying to hide her smile. "I-I-I'll b-b-be f-fine."
Blu thought of an idea, but he was scared that Jewel might hurt him, but he couldn't stand to see her freezing.
"Um, Jewel, come here." Blu said, opening out his wings carefully from his sides for the one he loves.
"W-W-Why?" Jewel replied still shivering, but this was part of the act, and deep down everything seemed to be going as plan.
"Just come here," Blu repeated for a second time, hoping he was not being pushy.
Jewel slowly scooted over to him until her back was touching Blu's body. She then waited as Blu slowly put his wings around her.
"Blu, what are you?... Oh" Jewel closed her eyes and began to relax in Blu's warm, feathery wings. "Oh, this is nice...Hmm, comfy."
Blu gently wrapped his wings around Jewel, she rested her head below his neck under the tip of his beak. Although she was pretending, she was feeling better already.
"Feel better?" Blu inquired, looking over towards the female macaw in his wings, not believing he was holding her without her being feisty. "Wow, I'm keeping her warm! Okay, Blu, play it cool."
"Very, thank you, aren't you cold?" Jewel inquired, noticing Blu did not seem to be cold, but was still part of her act.
"Nah, I lived in Minnesota far too long to be cold." Blu answered.
As Jewel was getting comfy, she turned her head around then noticed Blu looking a little fearful. "What's wrong, are you scared of me?"
"N-n-no… y-y-yes, sorry I was just trying to make you feel comfy." Blu was about to let her go but she gently grabbed one of his wings with her good wing, and kept it over her body, not wanting for Blu to let her go.
"Blu, it's sweet that your keeping me warm. Why do you think you're doing something wrong?" Jewel inquired.
"Well, I just remembered two days ago when you attacked me." Blu replied.
"But things are different now, so don't worry you little goofball." Jewel teased.
"Hey, I am not a goofball" Blu protested making Jewel chuckle yet again. "Linda always tells me what a big, brave boy I am !"
The mention of Linda again had raised a question for Jewel to ask Blu. She turned herself around in his wings so they were face to face. "Blu, I need to know something. Why do you care about Linda so much? She's a human."
"She's not just a human, Jewel." Blu said, trying to explain to her why Linda or most humans were not bad. "She's my best friend. Linda took care of me when I was just a baby. She fed me, gave my a home, and even her love. Linda is a nice person, Jewel. I promise. Just give her a chance...Please."
Jewel thought about it for a few seconds. What harm could it do? Linda was the one who ran towards her first back at the airport. She could be nice.
"Alright, Blu, I guess I can give it a try. But, I'm going to go to sleep." Jewel finished as she got comfortable in his wings.
Meanwhile in the camera room, Tulio and Linda were watching the tape from before when Jewel attacked by and had just noticed something on the video tape. "Well it turns out Blu and Jewel didn't mate two days ago." Tulio mentioned, watching the tape and noticed that they Jewel was chasing Blu and not mating.
"Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait," Linda said.
"Yeah, I guess." Linda answered, before she sighed sadly when she realized something important. "I guess I will be going home...Alone."
"What do you mean?" Tulio inquired, wondering why she would leave alone.
"Blu is obviously in love with Jewel and I can't take him away from Jewel." Linda explained, before she took off her glasses to rub her eyes with her hand to stop any tears from coming out from her eyes. "I guess I will have to go back home alone."
Tulio was saddened by this. Not only did he want Linda to stay but also had something to tell her. He place his hand on top her own and waited for her to look into his eyes. "You don't have to go, you know. You could stay."
"Stay?" Linda quiered, not sure what to think if she was too stay here in Rio. It was a nice place after all. "Why would I stay here?"
"Linda, you should know...I do care for you." Tulio answered, looking into her eyes through her glasses and his own.
"I care for you too, Tulio." Linda said, until she realized that he meant "care" in a different way rather than just friendship. "Oh.."
After a while of sleeping, Blu had woke up and immediately noticed Jewel wasn't there with him, but he heard a slight splashing. He got up and flew down out from the tree hollow to investigate the noise.
He moved forward and found Jewel in the pond, washing herself. Blu saw her and thought she looked beautiful, but he felt it was wrong to watch her bathe and was about to walk off but accidentally stepped on trig that revealed his location.
"Blu, is that you?" Jewel called out.
"Um, sorry, I'll leave." Blu replied, preparing to leave in a hurry before she would be angry for watching her bathe.
"Blu, its okay, I don't mind if you watch me bathe, honest, come join me." Jewel offered nicely, that was very rare to see from Jewel when you first meet her.
"Um okay." Blu said, as he slowly walked into the pond to bathe with her, but he had a confession: he didn't really know how to preen himself normally. Linda would clean Blu for him. "Um, Jewel?"
"Yeah?" she replied, still preening her good wing while listening to Blu of course.
"I don't want to seem like an idiot, but I don't know how to preen myself." Blu said, slightly embarrassed that he did not know how to preen himself.
"That's okay, I'll help." Jewel smiled, as she went behind Blu and picked up on his wings to demonstrate. "Okay, Blu, it's easy, just use your beak and rub it down your feathers and pick out the bad ones, it's easy." Jewel said as she let him try it on his own.
Blu extended out one of his wings and began rubbing his beak down them to pick out all the bad feathers like Jewel had instructed, and to her surprise, he was an expert at it already. "Wow, this is pretty easy."
"Told you," Jewel smiled.
As they both cleaned themselves, they were soon greeted by Tulio, who had entered the room to get them both by the looks of it. He leaned down and allowed both of them to jump onto his arm (Jewel hesitated at first but perched herself on his arm anyway). "Blu, Jewel, come with me."
Both of them hopped on his arm and went into Tulio's office. He set them both on the table while he walked away to go and fetch somethings. Possibly to get something for Jewel's wing.
"So, Jewel, do-" Blu was about to say something but Tulio shoved some medicine into his beak while he was talking.
"Linda told me to give you those." Tulio smirked, pulling the spoon out from his beak that caused by to swallow the horrible vitamins in disgust.
"Ewwwww" Blu groaned in disgust, looking around for something to drink to get the taste out, but there was nothing there.
"What's that, you sick or something?" Jewel inquired, wondering why that strange medicine was.
"No, it keeps me healthy," Blu replied.
"Wish they made stuff for the pain in my wing." Jewel said, looking down at her bad wing and still feeling a little pain shooting through her wing. "It still kind of hurts."
"They did, its called painkillers." Blu explained.
"Okay, Jewel, I need to check your wing." Tulio said, sitting down on the chair beside the table so he check on her wing to make sure it was healing okay and didn't need anything else.
Jewel slowly extended her bad wing to Tulio who slowly stroked it even though she still had doubts, she felt she could trust him. After all, she could be flightless right now if he didn't fix her wing.
"Looks like it's healing well. If you're in pain, I can give you a needle." Tulio offered.
"Needle?" Jewel said as she cocked her head to the side, puzzled about what that was.
"It's to take the pain away." Blu explained yet again while thinking to himself. "Wow, she sure doesn't know much about human life. I guess I will have to teach her."
Jewel nodded in agreement, wanting something that could stop the pain for a little. It wasn't extreme pain but it sure was irritating her.
Tulio slowly placed a needle in her wing and gave her a shot.
"That should make it stop," Tulio smiled as he picked them both up and put them in the artificial Jungle.
As he set them both back down inside, before he could close the door, Blu flew up to the entrance, but not before turning his attention back to Jewel so he could tell her where he was going. "Listen, Jewel, I was going to go out to find our friends to let them know you and me are alright. Okay?"
"Okay, but be quick." Jewel replied.
Blu flew out from the artificial Jungle and left the aviary to find his friends he had met along the way. A toco-toucan, canary, and cardinal. All of them were his friends, and they helped him along the way.
After a while, Blu had flew through the city and back to the club which was rebuilt after the war between birds and monkeys. He managed to find it pretty easy, despite being new in Rio.
While he was in the club, Blu had found his three friends and now he was talking to Rafael, Nico, and Pedro about what happened after they left the plane and how him and Jewel were finally together.
"So you finally felt the rhythm in your heart." Rafael said smiling, proud that his blue macaw friend finally found the courage to fly.
"You're fifteen years late," Nico said, rolling his bottle-cap that he likes to wear as a hat across his wings like a basketball.
"How's the hot wing?" Pedro inquired, referring to Jewel when he used the term 'hot wing'.
"She's fine, but it will be a month before she can fly again." Blu answered, before he just remembered he had been here for a while and wanted to leave so he could be with Jewel again. "I guess I should be going now. Good to see you guys again."
"Wait, before you go, we want you to meet our friends." Rafael called him back, wanting for the blue macaw to meet some of his friends. By the looks of it, Blu was going to be around for a while.
By a nearby bar that had been built in somehow, a black hawk and a red macaw were arm wrestling (in bird's case, wing wrestling). The red macaw was using both of his wings, struggling to win. His friend however was only using one wing and he seemed to be doing better.
"Come on, you can do better than that, can't you?" the hawk inquired, pulling his wing down and winning the arm wrestle.
"Why you gotta be so strong?" the red macaw complained, rubbing both of his wings together.
The two friends turned their attention towards the other direction when they heard their toucan friend named Rafael calling for them to come over. "HEY, GUYS, COME OVER HERE!"
The two friends walked towards their toucan friend to inquire what he wanted.
"Yeah?" The hawk asked.
"Blu, this is Ricardo-also known as 'Rico'-, and this is Rapper. Guys, this is Blu, the bird who saved us." Rafael said, giving introductions between the three birds.
"Hi," Blu greeted, holding his right talon out to them, hoping one of them would shake in return.
"Hey," The hawk known as Rico replied, kindly accepting his talon shake with his own, and to Blu's surprise, he seemed to have a good grip but didn't hold it too hard.
"Sup," the red macaw known as Rapper replied, with a hip hop voice, while he too began shaking Blu's talon after Rico had finished shaking their talons.
"Well, it was nice to meet you, but I gotta go, bye." Blu murmured, moving towards the exit/entrance to the club.
As Blu was flying back to the aviary to be with the girl he loves, he heard a familiar voice from the club calling for him so he stopped in mid-air. "Hey, Blu, wait up."
Blu froze in mid-air and saw it was the black hawk named Rico, Rafael had introduced him too. What could he want? "Oh, hi, Ricardo is it?"
"Yeah, but call me Rico," he replied, smiling across his beak.
"Okay, so what's up?" Blu inquired, hoping this hawk was not like Nigel was going to kidnap him and give him for smugglers'
"Well, I was wondering if I could meet your girlfriend." Rico questioned, wanting to meet the last female of her kind after he heard she and Blu were rare. "Rafael told me you two were the last of your kind and I wanted to meet you both. If that's okay?"
"Um sure, follow me." Blu agreed, hoping that he didn't just make a mistake.
As the macaw and hawk were flying, Blu told the story of what happened. How he came to Rio, how he and Jewel were chained together, how they were free, how he defeated Nigel, and how they finally feel in love.
After a little while, the macaw and hawk finally arrived at the aviary through a window where Tulio and Linda were drinking coffee. Blu landed down next to Linda to greet her. Tulio however, was focusing his attention on Rico.
"Oh, a black hawk, I haven't seen one of these in a long time." Tulio said, before he began making squawking noises towards Rico, who just moved back.
"Yo, Blu, what's this guy doing?" Rico slightly panicked, but all the humans could hear was Rico squawking in return like they really were communicating.
"Wow, still know how to communicate with them" Linda complemented, thinking his communication skills were actually impressing.
"Yeah, all you do is flap and squawk." Tulio replied.
"…Eh?" Rico asked confused, completely confused about this guy.
Before long, Blu and Rico flew into the artificial Jungle where they saw Jewel sitting down on the ground next to pond, eating a mango out from her talon that Tulio must have gave he for something to eat.
"Hey, Jewel, I'm back." Blu greeted, moving towards her so they could hug now that they were a couple.
"Oh, hey, Blu." Jewel replied, setting aside the mango and standing up before hugging him. While they were hugging, Jewel leaned her head over his shoulder to see the black hawk standing there looking around the place. "Who's your friend?"
"Oh, this is Rico, Rafael's friend. Rico this is My… My… My…" Blu tried to introduce them but was still getting used to him and Jewel being a couple which made him nervous and causing Jewel to chuckle.
"I'm Jewel," she replied sweetly. "Nice to meet you."
"You too," Rico replied, smiling now that he got to meet Jewel.
After the hawk and blue macaw were introduced, Jewel for no reason, began chuckling.
"What's so funny?" Blu inquired, wondering why Jewel had began laughing all of a sudden.
"You two look a like," Jewel chuckled.
"We do?" they both said simultaneously, looking at each other and realizing Jewel was correct. They did look a little similar except Rico didn't have any facial markings, and he had different coloured eyes. His were a ocean blue colour.
"Well, Blu told me about what happened, I am sorry to hear about your wing." Rico said, giving sympathy to Jewel after he heard about her wing being hurt.
"Thanks, I just miss flying, that's all." Jewel replied, sighing as she looked at her broken wing. "But Blu's here with me, and I think I can cope without flying for a while."
"Well it's getting late, I'm going to go home, bye, I'll see you around some time!" Rico said as he left the artificial Jungle through the door that they had left open.
"Bye." Jewel waved her good wing to bid him farewell before turning her attention back to her new husband. "He seems like a nice guy."
"Yeah," Blu agreed, before yawning when he was still a little tired despite the sleep he had earlier. "I'm going to get some sleep, coming?"
"Yeah, but can you carry me, I have a little trouble climbing the pegs?" Jewel requested.
"Sure," Blu replied as he flew towards her and gentle gripped her in his talons before flying towards the tree hollow. "Anything you need, Jewel. I am here to help."
"Anything, hmm?" Jewel thought to herself, realizing she could use this to get advantage. "Interesting."
Blu flew up to their artificial tree they were going to be staying in here for a while and both of them got in the nest getting ready to sleep.
"Mind if I could cuddle with you again?" Jewel inquired.
"Sure," Blu said, extending his wings open, not really feeling nervous this time.
Jewel went over to Blu and got comfy near his body, both of them laying side-wards as Blu wrapped his wings around her. As they were both getting comfy, Jewel made a depressed sigh.
"What's wrong?" Blu asked,
"I'm just a little depressed being stuck on the ground," Jewel replied, not really use to walking everywhere.
"Now you know how I felt the past fifteen years." Blu said smiling.
"Ha-ha very funny." Jewel said sarcastically. "It's just that its like we have switched sides. You couldn't fly, and I could, now it's the other way around." Jewel said sadly.
"I know what will cheer you up." Blu grinned.
"What?" Jewel asked.
Blu placed his right talon under hers and started tickling her toes with his. He was secretly hoping she wouldn't push him away and get aggressive, but his surprise yet again, it made her laugh.
"Blu," Jewel giggled, trying to move her talons from her his.
"You like that?" Blu inquired.
"Oh please stop," Jewel continued giggling, not liking being tickled from her new husband. "Stop, I can't...Take it..."
"But I'm enjoying myself." Blu replied.
Jewel tried to move but Blu had his grip on his wings tight around her. After a few more seconds, Blu got bored when his fun had ended so he stopped and Jewel turned around to meet his face.
"Are you cheered up now?" Blu asked happily.
"Much, thank you," Jewel sighed. "Hey, Blu, loosen your wings a little" Jewel asked.
"Um Okay,"
Blu unwrapped his wings from her a little and she turned around and wrapped her good wing around his back pressing her chest into his and resting her head just below his.
"There we go, now we're both comfy and warm." Jewel smiled, snuggling her head against his chest.
"Yeah, that feels better than before." Blu replied, making himself comfortable against her too.
"Hey, Blu, I was wondering, when my wing heals, are you going to come back to the jungle with me too?" Jewel inquired, wanting to be in the Jungle with Blu for the rest of her life.
"Well, I am a little scared but yeah, I want to, but I don't think I will do well out there." Blu replied, embarrassed and afraid of the Jungle, hoping Jewel wouldn't think of him as a wimp.
"Blu, it's okay, I'll help you live like the rest of us, just relax and I will show you how to live in the jungle." Jewel said as they shared a quick kiss together, that was their second one now. "Besides, I'll be there too. And if bird does cause trouble, I'll claw their eyes out than let them hurt you."
"Thanks, Jewel." Blu smiled, as he enjoyed the kiss from Jewel. "We just had our second kiss."
"Indeed." Jewel smiled, before she had request from Blu and she was sure he wouldn't say "no". After all, he did he would do anything for her. "Blu, I was wondering if you can do something for me?"
"Anything for you." Blu smiled, leaning himself up and letting Jewel go out of his embrace to inquire what she might want from him. "What can I do for you?"
"Well, I was wondering if you can massage my talons?" Jewel requested, moving her talons around a little due to the fact they were aching her. "There a little numb, and I'm not use to walking around everywhere."
"...Sure, Jewel, I can do that." Blu agreed, climbing out from the nest and sitting himself in front of her talons so he could massage her talons like she requested. He moved his own talons forward and placed his toes around her talons before he began rubbing them gently with his talons.
"Oh," Jewel sighed, relaxing as she was enjoying the massage Blu was currently giving her. "Oh, that's nice. Hmm, that's relaxing."
"You enjoying that?" Blu inquired, smiling as he continued to rub her talons with his own.
"Yeah, that's really. Relaxing." Jewel sighed, enjoying the free massage she was getting from her new husband.
"So, Blu, I have a question for you?"
"Okay, what's up?" Blu asked.
"Well, why did you come back for me?" Jewel asked. Blu was a little surprised by the question, Jewel had asked him. What he didn't know, it was another trick from Jewel to get him to say those three special words.
"Why did I come back for you?" Blu said, repeating her question.
"Yeah, why?" Jewel asked her again.
"Well, I… um… I cam back… because… I… I… I…" Blu tried to get the words out.
"Yes, he is going to say it!" Jewel thought excitedly.
"I… I… I love you, Jewel." Blu finally got it out before covering up his beak with his wing.
"Well, guess what, Blu?" Jewel smirked, moving his wing from over his beak using her good wing. "I love you too."
Two weeks later
Two weeks had past during the time Jewel was making a recovery in Tulio's aviary. While they were there, Blu had learned of the news of Linda going to stay in Rio de Janeiro by opening another bookstore here and he could not be happier. Also, Tulio was planning on making a tower near the Jungle so they could better protect wildlife from smugglers.
One peaceful morning, Blu was flying through the Jungle, looking for a home for him and Jewel to live in. She did like her old tree hollow, but now that she was going to live with Blu, she wanted to start a fresh life with him.
After a little while, Blu eventually found a home that looked perfect. It looked clean, it had a nice open area below, and to top it off, you could see the city if you fly high enough. He perched himself down on a tree branch to rest for a little while and to study his new home. "Hm, I like this home, yes I think I'll live here."
"Hey, Blu." a familiar voice greeted.
Blu turned around to investigate whoever greeted him to see it was Rico; the black hawk he met not too long ago. "Rico, good to see you again."
"You too, so you living here?" Rico inquired, noticing Blu was observing his new home.
"Yeah." Blu answered. "Do you live near here?"
"I live right there," Rico said gesturing a wing towards a nearby tree that was close by. "We could be neighbours, just don't wake me early in the morning."
"You got it," Blu replied, smiling of course before he had request for Rico. "Hey Rico, listen, if you see Nico or Pedro, can you do me a favour and tell them I'm ready. They will know what I mean."
"You got it." Rico smiled, agreeing to deliver the message for him.
"Thanks." Blu thanked before he sighed and looked at the sky that looked very peace in the day.
"Beautiful isn't it?" Rico said, also looking upon the sky, gazing upon it's beautiful, crystal-clear sky.
'Yeah, I hope life will be peaceful here with Jewel." Blu replied.
"Don't worry, Blu. Whenever I have problems, I go to The Christ Redeemer Statue, to think about things." Rico said, giving him a little advice on where he would go if he had troubles or needed to go somewhere to take his mind of things.
"Reassuring," Blu smiled at the hawk, and proceeded to fly back home.
After Blu found his home, he flew back to the artificial Jungle and saw Jewel sitting at the pond's edge splashing her talons in the water. She stood up when she saw her mate had returned.
"Honey, I'm back." Blu greeted.
"Hi, Blu, did you find us a home?" Jewel asked, hugging him with her good wing to greet him.
"Yeah, and it's beautiful, you'll love it." Blu grinned. "And plus I have got a surprise for you too."
"You have? What is it then?" Jewel asked excitedly, wondering what this surprise could be. "Hmm, surprise?"
Blu then clicked his wing tips like fingers then the disco ball came down but not playing a tune, then the two samba birds known as Nico and Pedro came out of a bush and started singing.
"Can I, can I save you from you (yeah)
Cause you know there's something
Missing and that champagne you've
Been sipping not suppose to make you
Different all the time."
"Blu, what's all this?" Jewel asked, thinking it was romantic that Blu had done of this just for her.
"Well you said you wanted to go to the club and again, and since you're stuck here, I'd thought I'd bring the party to you." Blu smiled, before he held out her wing to her, offering her the chance to dance with him again. "So you wanna dance?"
"Sure," Jewel replied taking his wing with her good wing. "I can't believe you did all this just for me."
The two love birds danced together like last time, except Jewel couldn't fly in the air this time. A
After a long five minutes of dancing, Nico finished his lyrics and he and Pedro left while Blu and Jewel went back into their tree ready to cuddle.
One week and 6 days later
Finally it was almost the day, Jewel would be free, Tulio had removed her bandages from her wing so she could stretch it, but still wouldn't be able to fly yet. Blu was sitting against the wall in his hollow, with Jewel lying on top of his body as Blu had his wings around her.
"So tomorrow's the day honey." Jewel said breaking the silence that had been sharing for so long. "Nervous?"
"Yeah, a little." Blu admitted, not wanting to lie about how nervous he was feeling right now.
"Don't worry, I'll show you how to live like the rest of us," Jewel said sweetly.
"Thanks, Jewel." Blu said as he kissed her head to her delight.
Blu looked at Jewel's feathery crown. He wanted to stroke them with his wing, but he was fighting the urge not to.
Jewel turned her head where she could see Blu staring at her. She knew he wanted to stroke her, and that made her smile "You wanna stroke me, don't you?"
"What… no… why would I want to do that?" Blu lied, still feeling nervous around Jewel by almost everything that he would say or do. "I mean, your not a dog… why would I-"
"Blu, Blu! It's okay." Jewel cut him off before he would begin panicking any further. "I don't mind if you stroke me."
"So can I?" Blu asked nervously.
"Of course." Jewel granted, rolling her eyeballs around while thinking that it was kinda cute for Blu to be nervous.
Blu lifted his left wing from over Jewel's body, and gently stroked her head slowly. "Wow, you feel so soft."
"Why thank you." Jewel replied.
Blu and Jewel continued to stare out of their artificial man-made tree hollow while Blu continued to stroke her light blue head feathers.
"You like stroking my head don't you." Jewel giggled.
"Want me to stop?" Blu asked.
"No, I actually enjoy it, I'm really comfy here." Jewel sighed, leaning her head down on Blu's chest with her eyes closed, enjoying every moment of being in Blu's warmth.
"So Blu," Jewel said, turning her head again, feeling his bushy blue feathers rub against her. "Do you still feel nervous around me?"
"Yes, a… a little." Blu replied slightly embarrassed.
"That is actually, kind of cute. But you don't have to feel nervous around me, we're together, Blu." Jewel said smiling, so that her new husband wouldn't have to feel nervous around her any longer.
"I know, I still can't believe I'm with you." Blu said stopping his wing from stroking Jewel's head and putting his left wing, back over her body. "Jewel, can I just say, you're so beautiful."
Jewel giggled in response and delight, accepting his compliment happily. "Why thank you, Blu. You're not so bad yourself."
"Did I tell you they're making a tower in the forest?" Blu asked, trying to make conversation between them.
"No, what kind of a tower?" Jewel asked, turning her head sideways so their eyes met.
"A tower to help watch over all the birds and to keep smugglers out, they called it the "blu bird sanctuary", and they added a picture of me on it."
"Wow, I didn't think humans cared for us that much." Jewel said, not thinking that the people she once called her enemies were actually kind to them.
"You would be surprised." Blu replied.
The day was here when Jewel would be released back home with her new husband. She, Blu, and the three humans Tulio, Fernando, and Linda had just arrived at the new tower that had been built in to help protect wildlife from smugglers'. Before going up, Tulio had waited by the car they drove here in to check Jewel's wing one last time.
Tulio just finished checking Jewel's wing and to his happiness, she had made a full recovery. "Yep, fully healed, are you ready to go home now?"
Jewel squawked happily and jumped into his hands. Blu, Jewel, Linda, Tulio, and Fernando all reached the top of the tower, Linda, Tulio and Fernando were all wearing the same shirt representing the tower. Jewel was still in Tulio's hands, she flapped her wings taking off into the sky for the first time in a month.
Linda set Blu down onto the wooden railing before they both did their friendship handshake one last time. Linda stroked Blu's head before he took off into the sky, and she was a little sad but happy that he would be with the girl that he loved.
"That's my big brave boy," Linda said as the three all watched as Blu and Jewel flew off into the sky. Tulio placed his hands on her shoulder, and Fernando's and she in turn put on hand on Tulio's and another on Fernando's.
"I believe I promised you how to survive in the jungle." Jewel said, watching Blu who had finally caught up to her.
"Yeah, indeed, lead the way, my gem of the forest." Blu replied, smiling at the little nickname he had just given her.
The next day, Blu and Jewel had already adjusted to their new life together in the Jungle. They lived in a tree hollow together and even got to know the neighbors around the Jungle.
They both had decided to visit the beach together the next day. Blu and Jewel ran across the beach, laughing and giggling while holding wings with each other. Nico and Pedro were there too except they were singing a song for the two lovebirds.
I thought love was
Only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else
But not for me
Love was out to get to me
That's the way it seems
Disappointment haunted
All my dreams
And then I saw her face
Now I'm a believer
Not a trace
Of doubt in my mind
I'm in love
I'm a believer
I couldn't leave her
If I tried
The two lovebirds laughed and giggled as they both looked into each other's eyes, still holding wings while running across the beach together.
I thought love was
More or less a given thing
But the more I gave the less
I got, oh yeah
What's the use in trying And then I saw her face
All you get is pain
When I wanted sunshine
I got rain
Now I'm a believer
Not a trace
Of doubt in my mind
I'm in love
I'm a believer
I couldn't leave her
If I tried
At one point, Blu and Jewel fell down into the sand together and laughed as they moved their wings around each other and rolled around in the sand, playing with each other as they continued to roll around.
What's the use in trying
All you get is pain
When I wanted sunshine
I got rain
And then I saw her face
Now I'm a believer
Not a trace
Of doubt in my mind
I'm in love
I'm a believer
I couldn't leave her
If I tried
Blu and Jewel got back up onto their talons, not really bothered about the sand because it was dry so it would easily come out from their feathers. They both looked into each other's eyes as they moved closer towards each other.
Then I saw her face
Now I'm a believer
Not a trace
Of doubt in my mind
Now I'm a believer
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Now I'm a believer
And then I saw her face
Now I'm a believer
Not a trace
"Blu, I love you." Jewel said, as they both stopped running together. Jewel moved her wings around the back of Blu's neck.
"Jewel, I love you, too." Blu said, as he moved his wings around her back.
The two lovebirds locked their beaks into each other's and kissed patiently. They had did it. Blu and Jewel now have learned they were meant for each other when they first met and can now be with each other and never let each other go as long as they will love.
Maybe this new life will be a good one for Blu.
