Summary: Just a typical day with demons in the world of Kagome and Inuyasha.
Author Notes: My first Inuyasha story ever, so I'd appreciate any constructive criticism and help with canon, as I've only seen up to episode 53 in the Anime. I have real problems with word restrictions. Really must work on that! This was written for a challenge in an Inuyasha fanfiction challenge community on Livejournal. The Theme was Protection.
"Inuyasha!"
Kagome's voice floated over the battleground, over the cries of battle and the sound of blood being spilt. Even if it had been just a whisper, Inuyasha would have heard it.
"Damnit." Inuyasha mumbled, sidestepping the large tentacles as they shot towards him. His blood boiled. Kagome needed his help and this stupid creature was getting in his way.
Tetsusaiga blazed to life as he unsheathed it, raw power flowing from his need to protect Kagome. No one knew when that desire to protect had ever blossomed into love.
"Can you never stay out of trouble, wench?" Inuyasha called, dropping from the sky to land in front of her.
"I don't do it on purpose!"
He grunted as a response, pushing her behind him with one hand before he faced the demon.
"You ain't touching her, bastard." He growled, low and menacing before slashing Tetsusaiga and watching with a smug smile as the monster evaporated before him.
"You alright?"
He turned round and saw Kagome watching him with awe in her eyes.
"What?"
Kagome just smiled.
Inuyasha let out a soft 'keh' and turned bright red when he felt her hand slip into his.
"Thanks."
