The Last Night

Her lips were full, kissable – mine.
It's only for tonight.

Her soft deft piano fingers were to play across my body.
It's only for tonight.

In the morning we would part, but tonight – we would never sleep.
It's only for tonight.

Their bodies were tangled in the sheets of the hotel bed – long red hair splashing along the pillow to meet short brown. This is how it was meant to be, this is how it is meant to be. Chest against chest they lie next to each other, never separating themselves; tomorrow Lily would be married. Tomorrow this would have to stop.

Alice was her maid of honor, she would bear witness to the vows that Lily told her was written for her and not James. She would hear the promises of love and eternity and know that whilst they were meant for her; they could never be fulfilled. Her prophecy would lie incomplete next to the wedding arc.

How they both wished it was two brides getting married tomorrow instead of one, how they wanted Lily's last name to be Longbottom instead of Potter when the sun goes down.

Twilight would bring with it another world; one where Alice and Lily would both be forced to live without one another. A world neither of them looked forward to but accepted. Love wasn't enough for them, love could never be enough.

"Without me you can have it all." They both knew it was right. A war-zone isn't the right time to come out and go through adoption forms and procedures. A wedding was simpler than most thought; a man and a woman stand next to each other and say "I do". It's how it's meant to be, but not for them.

Love knew no boundaries with them and together they made love in a way that they had never before experienced, it was fresh like the morning sun but still as passionate as the fiery sunset. It was all delicate wrists and whisperings of love I never want to leave you, I'll always love you until it wasn't.

Words of goodbyes are on their lips, "think of me when you see his face", but they bite them back. The clock says they have two more hours together and together the second hand seems to move at such a speed it's a blur, often they find themselves trying to count – to slow down the time together. Prolong the space between touches so their skin hums and sparks just that little extra bit when their bodies finally reconnect.

But it doesn't work. They both need each other more than they can even comprehend and any time apart seems to be wasted time.

There would be whispered endings to their love, but not now – not yet. For now their lips only belonged on each others flesh, murmuring words of continuity and promises of forever that would only be able to live in their minds.

a/n: My first Alice/Lily piece, thoughts? I looked up for Alice and Lily femmeslash stories and couldn't come across many so I decided to make my own.
