Freshly Mowed Grass and Spearmint Toothpaste.

Summary:

When Hermione is asked to give an example of what her Amortenia smells like, she gives a peculiar answer that reveals so much to her friends, and herself. Fluffy one-shot. Includes HBP quotes.

Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter, Jo does, and for that, I owe her my life.

"And what potion would this be?" Professor Slughorn asked, all of the students in advanced potion-making crowded around a bubbljng cauldron in the dimly-lit dungeon. Hermione Granger's hand shot up in the air.

"It's Amortenia!" she said matter-of-factly, "or the most powerful love potion in the world. I contains a different smell for each person's significant other. For example," she said, taking a step forward, "mine smells like freshlw mowed grass and….spearmint toothpaste" Hermione said quickly at the end. She risked peeking a look at Ron Weasley, whom she had shared an incident with containing spearmint toothpaste only weeks earlier.

Spearmint toothpaste? Ron thought. Blimey, she really is the brightest witch of our age. He decided to take a whiff himself. Just as Hermione rushed out of the room, tears streaming down her face, thinking its beauty, not bitterness, that breaks the heart. He'll never love me like I love him

Ron said:

"My Amortenia smells….it smells like something distinct, vanilla. Yes, vanilla…and something else…" he trailed off, worried but expecting what it would smell like.

He smiled to himself as he then said,

"My Amortenia smells like vanilla, and spearmint toothpaste." And only one witch came to his mind when he said this:

The brightest witch of our age.
