Disclaimer: I don't own Stephen King's Carrie or Bob Dylan's 'Tombstone Blues'.
Tombstone Blues
Now I wish I could write you a melody so plain
Carrie didn't really have the chance to listen to other genres of music, save for Christian and worship songs that she and her momma repeatedly listened to. All the songs sang about God, religion, faith. She wondered what other songs would have talked about. Were there songs that talked about something else other than that?
But Carrie liked listening to Bob Dylan. Surprisingly, momma did as well. Carrie sometimes drew hope from Bob Dylan. And there was this song that had nailed everything.
That could hold you dear lady from going insane
She didn't understand her mother. Didn't understand any of her ramblings when it came to about the Bible. She did not know anything about menstruation, not until she got herself humiliated in front of her classmates at the showers when she yelped and asked for help, believing that she was bleeding to death. It wasn't her fault she came unprepared with that kind of event. Momma never said anything about menstruation. In fact, momma hated red. Sin is red. And momma always said that blood is the first sin, and many sins will follow it.
That could ease you and cool you and cease the pain
When she realized the potential she had, of developing the power that she possessed, it was overwhelming. One time momma talked about this and she said that grandma also had this gift. But momma sees it as a curse. Momma thinks Carrie inherited the curse.
When Tommy Ross approached her and smilingly asked if she would go to the prom with him, her heart and mind seemed to have stopped for a second. Tommy Ross. Why would Tommy be even interested in asking her? Was this some kind of trick again to humiliate her? Put it on the youtube site that the girls were talking about, where Chris also posted her unfortunate plug-it-up incident?
She liked Tommy, not because he was handsome and athletic but because he was different from the varsity jocks that consituted the Lacrosse team. Tommy was, according to Rita Desjardin, dreamy. Dreamy had been the perfect adjective to associate with Tommy but, this wonderful boy was already with Sue Snell. What she did not understand was why Tommy would ask her and not Sue? She'd seen them plenty of times making out, and that just confused her more. She remembered that day at the showers, where Sue also threw a tampon at her. But, didn't Sue stop and had a guilty look on her face as the other girls continued mocking her. Perhaps Sue was just guilty. Very guilty that she asked Tommy to choose her instead.
At least Tommy's kind face soothed her, even if it was just for a little while.
Of your useless and pointless knowledge
Books about telekinesis interested her, believing that she would be able to fully develop her power if she read the right resources. People laughed at her when they passed by her at the cafeteria, and that was because of the books that she decided was interesting. Didn't people learn from books? Yes they did, which is why she is reading as many as she can so that she would be quipped of knowledge that would help her become better.
But she had not listened to momma. She had not believed that blood was the first of the many that would come... Oh, if only she had listened to momma. If only she had just prayed and asked God for forgiveness. All of this wouldn't have happened. She wouldn't have gone through the same thing again. She wouldn't have sinned by taking lives of people. Wouldn't have killed momma with her own hands. With her curse.
I hope you read and review.
