Keyblade Chronicles: Book I
By Firefall Power
Chapter One
Sora felt like he was about to pass out as he rushed through the endless forest. His breathing was sharp and his running was slowing down, but Sora was determined to get to wherever he was going. Where was he going, anyway? Sora was running, but not with his own brain. He didn't know why, how, or where; he didn't know anything, for that matter! Sora stumbled through the forest and as he hit the ground, he woke up.
"Sora? Are you Ok?" Sora stared into the piercing blue eyes of his friend, Kairi, and smiled.
"I'm fine, Kairi. I just had a wierd dream, is all." Sora replied, a worried expression crossing Kairi's face.
"I don't know, Sora. You've had a few wierd dreams this past week." Kairi responded as she started to walk to the treehouse. Sora suddenly realized that he was lying down on the pure white sands of Destiny Islands. Sora stood up shakily and walked towards Kairi, touching her shoulder.
"Kairi, I'm fine. C'mon, let's get Tidus and Selphie to go to the fair today in Twilight Town!" Sora said quickly, attempting pathetically to raise Kairi's spirit. Kairi nodded, unsure of whether she still wanted to go or not.
Kairi had moved to Destiny Islands when she was eight years old, and she hadn't taken to kindly to most of it's residents. Especially that mean older kid, Riku. Sora was her only friend when she arrived, and it was still the same way. Kairi remembered when she first met Sora. How she had pined for him ever since she saw his spiky brunette hair, and his ice blue eyes. And how Riku had stared at them coldly with seagreen eyes and silver hair that stopped sharply at his elbows. He was much taller than both Sora and Kairi, and older. He was also stronger than most of the kids on the island, until Sora beat him in a battle one day. Until that day when Sora struck him down with his wooden sword, Riku was the boss.
"Kairi, come on!" Sora called. Kairi smiled and followed Sora to Tidus' house back on the peninsula that separated the houses from where they played on the island. Kairi ran to keep up with Sora, who was now walking too fast to spot from a distance.
"Sora!" Kairi called, but there was no response. Suddenly, the Darkness curled around Kairi's neck and stroked her chin with a long finger.
"Girl, you do not need him. You have me. Come to me, and you shall have a wonderful life. Just me, you, and nothing can separate us. Not even Sora's brilliant Keyblade." Kairi closed her eyes and shook the Darkness away.
"I don't need you! Or anyone!" Kairi yelled. But the Darkness held her close, the intoxicating fumes of evil swirling around her entire body. Suddenly, she saw the Darkness take shape. It turned into a silver-haired boy. A tall, silver-haired boy.
"Riku! What did you do to Sora?" Kairi yelped, but Riku held her even closer and whispered in her ear.
"Sora is gone. We don't need him. Just us two." Riku's awful-smelling breath was now whirling up into her nostrils. Kairi felt choked by Riku's strong desire. She was going to die if she refused him. What could she do? Then, it came to Kairi. She had to do it. It was a risk, but she would go for it anyway.
