"Daddy," Charlie said as he put the cereal box back on the table.
"Yes?" Jack asked without turning away from the counter.
"No, Dad. Look at me."
Charlie sounded so serious. Jack put down the sponge he'd been washing dishes with, rinsed the soap off his hands, and turned to look at his three and-a-half year old son. Charlie had finished his breakfast and was looking at him intently.
"Dad, I was reading the back of the cereal box and it says that 'no' is not a word. Can I go play my video game now?"
Jack stared at his boy in opened mouthed shock. He'd received a Play Station from Sara's dad for his birthday and had become obsessed with it, to the point where he wanted to do almost nothing else other than play video games. It got so bad that Sara and Jack had agreed to limit his playing time to one hour a day, and only after dinner. Jack couldn't help but smile as he looked at Charlie. He had his mother's smarts as far as book learning went, but he definitely got his cunning from his old man. The boy was too smart for his own good. "Sure, son. Go ahead."
THE END
Notes: This ficlet was inspired by my oldest nephew. When he was about three and-a-half he said exactly what Charlie does in this fic, the only difference is he was talking to his mother. My nephew had gotten a Nintendo DS for Xmas and played it constantly. He's been playing video games since he was about two or so. My nephew will be eight on Nov 13th and to this day he is still obsessed with them and his parents limit his playing time to about an hour a day.
