A/N: This was written for Punchbuggie's Romeo and Juliet challenge. I only own the plot and none of the characters. This is set in sixth year and Draco is trying to fulfill the task Voldemort gave him and kill Dumbledore.

False Hopes
Draco Malfoy slowly walked up to the Owlery. It was his place to think, or rather to get away from his thoughts. He had just finished his work on the vanishing cabinet in the Room of Requirement. His task would soon be complete. His body was weary with stress as he climbed the final steps.
The continual screeching of the owls around him gave him a chance to drown out his thoughts, and doubts. These days it seemed like there were more doubts and worries than anything else in his head. He sat down with his back to the wall and gave himself up to the numbness that was slowly working its way through his limbs. Draco closed his bloodshot eyes and leaned back against the wall to relax as much as he could.
His small bit of peace was quickly ruined as his brown owl Archimedes landed on his knee with a letter from home. He quickly untied it and tore it open, immediately recognizing his mother's loopy handwriting. He sighed and began to read:
Darling Draco,
I dream'd a dream to-night. I dreamed that you would be successful in your task and we would be safe from the wrath we would both face if you should fail. This is a wonderful omen and it bodes well. I have every faith that you will be safe and accomplish everything the Dark Lord has set out for you to do. All will go well and we shall live out like in my dream, you safe from harm and home with me for the duration of the war that will inevitably follow your success.
With all of my love,
Your mother
The pale Slytherin sighed once again and let his head fall back. He knew that his mother was never very gifted in the art of divination, but her letter gave him hope. Maybe everything would play out like in her dream. He slowly stood and began to make his way to the room of requirement to make sure everything was in place. Tomorrow night must go smoothly, just like his mother dreamt.
Draco squared his shoulders and held his head high. All of the nervousness and stress was now replaced by a calm determination to complete the task of killing Albus Dumbledore.

A/N: I'm hoping that everyone understands the title. Narcissa gave him hope but as far as I'm concerned after this letter everything would play out like in the books, Draco ultimately chickening out and not fulfilling his set task.
