Prologue: Updated

Astrid slowly opened her eyes, the blinding lights forcing her head pound. Her vision was blurry, her wrists hurt, and the only thing that she could hear was the sound of her own beating heart.

She gave a soft groan before lifting her head up off what appeared to be a wooden floor. She winced at the light, then readjusted her vision. Immediately, she felt her heart sink deep into her stomach.

She was in a cage, wrist tied tight with the uncomfortable rope, sitting in what appeared to be the bottom of the ship. She moved her wrist around, rolling her shoulders around.

Slowly, she sat up until her back rested upon the bars of the cage, looking straight forward towards an empty cage. She looked over her shoulder to the left, then the right.

She was completely alone

She twisted her wrist again, noticing that they were paler than the rest of her. She could feel her circulation being cut off, her hands falling weak. She still couldn't even wrap her mind around what happened.

One second, it was her and the dragon riders attempting to blow apart and save the dragons in the cargo, now, she was here, all alone. Not even Snotlout was here. They must have all fled.. Astrid felt her heart sink deeper into her stomach.

Before she could allow another thought to cross her mind, she gave a loud gasp. Stormfly! Where was she? What did they do with her? She clearly wasn't underneath the ship, so where else could she be? Did she fly away too? Did she escape along with everyone else?

Astrid felt panic surge around her body, her body heating up despite the cold temperature. She strained at her wrist again, knowing that it was useless to try and break free. These ropes were secure and tight, and worst of all, the dragon hunters disarmed her when she was captured.

Before she could panic anymore, she heard a door swing open. Immediately, she turned her attention towards the male walking down the stairs. "Ahhh, your awake. Perfect," said the voice. Astrid peeled her lip in a remark of disgust as Viggo made his way down and towards her.

"Hello my dear Astrid. I'm sure you had a nice nap." Viggo said, his hands held behind his back. Astrid rolled her eyes. "Oh yeah sure, I just love sleeping on the cold, hard, wooden deck of your ship. I absolutely adore how the metal bars from this cage stick me in my sides. Really is a dream come true."

Viggo raised an eyebrow, a slick smile on his face. "I'm so glad that you enjoyed it." He said, playing along with the sarcasm. "But me and you have business to attend to." Astrid pulled at her wrist again. "Whatever your offer is, I pass. I would rather die than work with you."

Viggo gave a soft chuckle. "I wouldn't be so quick to make decisions if I was you. Oh, and are those ropes giving you trouble. I do sincerely apologize dear Astrid. When I told Ash to tie you up, I didn't mean like that. I was hoping for a blindfold around your eyes, and ropes around your hands and feet. But oh well, with weakened hands, your won't be able to cause much harm."

Astrid ignored Viggo's comment, then completely changed the subject. "What did you do with my dragon?" She snapped. Viggo ran his fingers through his beard lightly. "By whatever do you mean?" He asked, playing stupid.

Astrid furrowed her brows, then moved her body closer towards the cage until she was looking Viggo right into his brown eyes. "The Deadly Nadder! What did you do with Stormfly!?" "Oh, you mean the white and blue dragon. A very hostile beast at that. But don't worry, she is receiving our best care."

"And what kind of care is that?" Astrid asked, her voice tense. "The same kind you are getting of course. Only better. A dragon with that aim can shoot, I don't know, a flea off a yak's tail from twenty yards away?"

Astrid felt her blood boil. "You better not hurt her!" She shouted. "I wouldn't dream of it." Viggo said. "Now, as much as I want to keep this lovely conversation going, we both know that is not the reason why I came down here."

Astrid huffed, moving back towards the cage. "I don't have all day Astrid, we have a plan, and now we must go through with it. Me and you have much to discuss, now." Before Astrid could reject again, Viggo gave a loud snap. Instantaneously, a dragon hunter came bashing out from the door.

"Ash, so glad that you can for once follow orders." Viggo said, giving him an insulting greeting. "Open the cage, and take her out." Without hesitation, without speaking, the male opened up the cage and yanked Astrid to her feet.

"Untie her." Viggo said. Ash looked at him like he lost his mind. "Viggo, are you trying to let her get away?" He asked, his voice light. "Just do as I say." Viggo said, his chocolate brown eyes locked on Astrid's eyes.

Silently, Ash loosened the ropes, allowing Astrid's hands to go free. "We will take it from here." Viggo said to Ash. He nodded, giving Astrid a hard shove as he began to leave from the lower deck. She gave a silent whimper, feeling her heart just fade away.

What was going to happen to her? What has she gotten herself in to?
