The foliage of the dense forest lays scattered around deep red ringlets which look as if they have been cast like a fisherman's net, reaching endlessly across the small clearing. The leaves form an almost halo around the girls head; orange, brown, green. A scarlet smear remains over her plump lips; mouth parted slightly showing her impressive set of teeth. Green eyes stare up towards the tops of the trees, synthetic lashes framing her wide child-like eyes.

She resembles a porcelain doll, with her pale skin, pink cheeks and hauntingly empty eyes.

Dropping the duffle bag to the ground, Leah crouches down, rocking on the ball of her boot, assessing the scene.

"You found her like this?" she asks the officer who stands to the side, just on the outside of the tape. She figures the officer is new by the way his eyes hover over the area but never directly on the body. She remembers her first body; Birmingham, Alabama. She had only been six years old.

"Yes, ma'am. Couple of hikers came across the body this morning 'bout 6am. Got the call through to the park rangers around 6.23am."

Leah pulls a glove from her pocket, slipping it over her hand. "Why the delay?"

"Bad reception 'round these parts. All the trees, they mess with the signal."

"Hmm," Leah responds, even though her attention is drawn down to the body.

Slowly she runs her gloved index finger around the gums of the girl. When she finds nothing, she pulls her hand back and snaps off the latex. She stands and stretches out. "Any way to get up here with a vehicle?"

"No ma'am. Nearest access point is the car park at the bottom of the Point."

"Is that where I just came from?"

He nods in affirmation. "There's another Point is across the ridge but that's even further and the terrain is worse than here. You think he brought her up here? Carried her?"

Leah stares down at the body once more. "It's more than likely. When the coroner arrives to collect the body I want the dirt underneath the body to be collected as well. My partner will want to run some tests on it. Can you manage that?"

"Yes ma'am," the officer nods as he pulls up the tape as she ducks underneath it with the duffel.

As Leah walks away she stops, turning back to the officer.

"Oh. I almost forgot. Did you find her badge?"
