Disclaimer: I don't own Bionicle, only Kit.
Author's Note: I (finally) decided to write this story as a response to a review I received from Arya Toa Metru of Elements, and others, (the idea just sounded too cute to pass up for long).
Summary: Kit and Toa Takanuva realize they have romantic feelings for each other.
The stars were out. The moon was full, giving off a soft glow so bright, it seemed to light up the night sky and the land beneath it as well as, though not as harshly as the sun could. A few scattered clouds drifted idly across the sky, as if they were no hurry to get anywhere. 'Not that I blame them,' Kit thought to herself and, with a contented sigh, she returned her gaze to the ocean before her. She had been sitting on the edge of a cliff, legs lazily dangling over the side, for a little while now, taking in all of the sights, sounds, and smells of the night. Like her, it seemed like everything in the world was taking it easy, from the animals, to the plants, to the water below, to the very air itself. Moon and starlight reflected on the water of the ocean and the calm eddies in the distance made it look like the very celestial objects themselves were dancing. Everything was so peaceful and beautiful, which was the very reason why she came here in the first place. After all of the action and adventure that had been going on lately, it was nice to enjoy this serene moment while it lasted. The soft tramping of something approaching through the bushes behind her caught her attention. She almost thought it was a Rahi until she saw a flash of gold.
"Hey," Toa Takanuva, the new Toa of Light greeted. "Mind if I join you?"
"Join the crowd," Kit invited.
The new Toa set himself beside the girl and joined her in gazing out at the ocean, "Nice night, huh?"
Kit shook her head in response, causing Takanuva to give her a surprised look. The girl faced him and said with mischievous smile, "Beautiful."
The Toa of Light chuckled.
"So, Taku . . . er, Takanuva, what's it like being a Toa?" Kit asked.
After giving it a little thought, Takanuva replied. "Well, because you're taller, everything seems smaller than it used to be. I still find it weird that I'm now bigger than my Matoran friends, who until recently I could talk to eye-to-eye. Everyone looks at you differently, and having all of this power flowing through me and added physical strength is going to take some getting used to."
"Well, that's what training is for," Kit giggled. "To help you learn how to use your new powers and strength properly."
"I know," the Light Toa said with a slightly tired groan, "but, please, don't remind me," and he let himself fall on the soft grass.
"Long day of training with Tahu and the others?"
"And, helping the villagers prepare for the trip to that city that we just discovered. What did Turaga Vakama call it again?"
"Metru Nui."
"Right, Metru Nui."
Deciding to change the subject, Kit inquired, "So, is that why you came here? To get some relaxation after a hard day's work?"
The Toa of Light sat up with a grin, "Yeah, I partially came up here because it's normally quiet and peaceful."
While Takanuva talked, Kit just gazed at him, lost in some strange thoughts. Ever since he was Takua, she and the Light Toa had been very good friends. Now, it seemed like lately those feelings have been multiplied to a new level, a level she had never experienced before. Every time she saw him her heart felt like it was fluttering like a butterfly's wings, she felt as if she were floating, and she kept thinking in her mind of how cute, in a handsome-kind of way, he was. Though this never happened to her before, she knew what was going on. 'No, it can't be,' she said to herself, but, no matter how much she tried to put it aside, she couldn't shake it off.
After the Toa of Light was done speaking, she nodded in agreement and the two returned to their gazing at the sea. At least, Takanuva did, for a few minutes, then found his eyes wandering toward Kit against his will. Almost instantly, he felt his heart beat faster, a little lightheaded, and his cheeks warm up a little. Just like Kit, he too felt his feelings for the young human increase tenfold lately. And, just like the girl, he tried to reason it out of him, mainly because he was sure such a relationship would never work. Firstly, they were two completely different species who lived in completely different realities. Secondly, he was, story-wise, thousands of years older than her. At the age of seventeen, if one compared her to the average lifespan of a Matoran, she was not too much older than a newly activated Matoran. It just felt wrong to him. And yet, no matter how he tried, he couldn't get the ridiculous thoughts out of his head. With a sigh, he resorted to gazing in the distance. Kit, meanwhile, turned her attention to the Light Toa and, upon impulse, placed her hand on top of his. The Toa slightly started, looked at her hand on his, and looked into her eyes. At that very moment, Takanuva not only felt his heart pump faster than before, but he decided that, if he didn't know any better, the girl's eyes were shining like they were stars themselves. "What's the other part?" Kit asked.
"Pardon?"
"You said you partially came here because it was peaceful. So, what's the other part?"
The Toa of Light thought for moment, and replied, "Because, somehow, I knew you'd be here too." Too late, he realized that the tone of his response was softer and fonder than he intended it to be. 'Mata Nui, I hope she didn't notice,' he said to himself. However, the girl did notice, but didn't say a thing. Then, as if in a trance, Toa and human slowly drifted closer together, their lips preparing to seal the pact between them. Both of them could hear the rational voices in their minds telling them to stop, but they sounded so distant, so far away, they didn't heed them. Just when their lips were mere meters away from each other, a horrible screech filled the air.
Before them hovered a few Nui Rama, and they didn't look like they were just going to go away. Reflexively, the two jumped up to their feet. Takanuva unlimbered his Kohlii staff and Kit summoned her armor suit as her hands charged up with energy. Some of the winged Rahi then moved in for an attack. "You might want to cover your eyes, Kit," the Toa warned. The girl gave him a confused glance, but did as he said. A split-second later, she understood why; a flash of light, muted by her hands and eyelids, appeared and was followed by startled screeches. When the light disappeared, she opened and uncovered her eyes to find two of the Rama flying away in a ditsy kind of manner, leaving three of their comrades behind.
Toa and girl eyed each other and smiled, thinking the same thing, and the remaining Rama decided to dive. In the blink of an eye, Takanuva cupped his hands, Kit placed in a foot, and, with an, "Addeyoop!" from her, the Toa hoisted the girl up into the air. Kit flipped over the center Rama and blasted it in the back with an energy ball. Though the shot didn't cause a lot of damage, it did scare away the bug. 'Three down, two to go,' she thought as she landed. One of the remaining two Rama switched direction and dove toward Kit. Kit and Takanuva, meanwhile, met eyes, nodded, and, with no spoken communication whatsoever, made their final move. They ran toward each other; the Rahi just missing them. Takanuva ducked low, Kit planted her hands on his shoulders and flipped over him, and the two blasted the bugs just enough to scare them off.
"They never learn, do they?" asked Kit as she deactivated her suit.
"Apparently not," Takanuva agreed.
"You know, you gotta admit, Takanuva, we make a good team," the girl remarked.
"No, not good," the Toa of Light shook his head. When Kit gave him an odd look, the Light Toa smiled and corrected, "Great." Kit just couldn't hold back a giggle; she knew he was just teasing her about earlier.
Then, in both of their minds, Toa and human thought back to where they were before they were interrupted. For a moment, they thought about getting back to where they left off, but they stopped themselves. What were they possibly thinking? It was all just too surreal. Sure, it was kind of cute at first, but it was obvious now that it was starting to get a little out of hand. Despite how long this reflection seemed, it all actually happened in the span of a passing minute. "It's starting to get late," said Takanuva. "We'd better be getting back to our villages." Kit nodded and they exchanged a fist-punch, not only as a farewell, but as a mutual, silent agreement that things were not going to be like they were earlier that night. As the two made their separate ways back to their respective villages, they found that it actually hurt a little that they called it off. But, they knew it was for the best; things just wouldn't work out. In a way, they felt a sense of relief that felt like a weight had been lifted off their shoulders. It was over.
However, in their own individual locations, Takanuva and Kit looked up to the moon and, with no idea whatsoever, thought the exact same thought with small, almost hopeful smiles, 'Or, was it?'
Fair warning: I have no intention of this actually being a part of my story with Kit; I'm not going to take this Kit/Takanuva pairing any further. I'm sorry, but this little story exists all on its own. I hope you still enjoyed it, though.
