Title: Evidence
Day/Theme: October 13 / true as autopsies on tape
Series: Darker than Black
Pairings/Characters: Misaki, Hei
A/N: Season 1, mostly. Also, I am amazed I still remember his number.
Summary: The lack of clues tell her everything she needs to know-BK 201 was here.
...

...
It's gruesome, really, the contorted lines on his face. His eyes are rolled back, up (drying already, she notices), and all she can see is that unnerving white. His mouth is an open scream, layers of skin engulfing what used to be cheeks and a forehead. Any hair left is thinned severely and his hands are forever clawing at his neck.

A few other things she notices: the skin is dry, the body is cold and frozen stiff, this man was probably a contractor once. His clothes remain pristine and his fingers curled in. Two teeth are missing, three are yellowed over, and his tongue is rolled back. This body has been dead for many hours now.

She'll have to call and see if a star fell earlier, and if it did so fighting BK-201.

The signs are all here that he must have-the lack of lacerations of any kind on the body, the quick death, the missing clues. It all points to him.

To that one contractor she can't hunt down. His face remains in shrouds as does his motives.

Misaki gets up, dusting her legs as she does so. She's been here long enough as it is and there is nothing else to find.

Still, she can't stop the grin on her face. If there is a body here, that means just maybe, just maybe, she'll get one step closer to that elusive shadow.

And maybe, this time she'll finally catch him.
