I just finished reading Aishiteruze Baby for the third time and so I wanted to write a little something. After looking at the end I figured that Yuzuyu was about fifteen ((although she could be older)). That would make Kippei about twenty six-twenty seven which seems a good point. So, this story is four years later than that.

My Own Mistake

Chapter One :: Heartbreaking news

Kippei Katakura, a young thirty year old rocked his three year old daughter in his arms, a sick mask over his face. Since today was Sunday he had the day off, which was good since for the past few months his chest had been killing him. The three year old child struggled in his hold, he held her tighter, "Yuzu," he whispered, he had named the girl after the child he loved like a little sister, "Don't struggle. Papa's got you."

He held his head down and looked away beginning to cough, his throat sounding incredibly bad. As he stood there he looked at the three year old as she pushed herself back asking him.

"Daddy? Am I a good girl?" her eyes seemed to beg him for an answer and he laughed gently, supporting her securely in his arms and leaned forwards so that their noses were touching. He loved this girl more than anything in the world, well he loved both Yuzu, short for Yuzuyu, and Kokoro the same amount. His own family.

Hearing the phone ring he listened before hearing Kokoro answer it.

"Moshi Moshi," at the next words her expression seemed to completely change, "Hold on a moment, I'll get him." Walking to the room, she looked at her husband, and bowed her head holding the phone out, "It's for you, it's..." she gave Yuzu a rather sad look before speaking, "them."

Them these days meant the doctors since Kippei had gone in for test after test with nothing ever proven, he would have to keep going in until they got an accurate reading. However, they had both decided to make it seem as if the word doctor didn't exist around the small, innocent girl. "Go to Mama, okay?" he asked his daughter as he set her on the ground.

"Kay," the small girl smiled not sensing that anything was wrong. Taking the phone to the other room, Kippei started to use a strong voice until it faltered and turned more serious. Kokoro now holding her daughter, and listening to him.

"So.." he spoke extremely downhearted, "What's the next step, there are ways of curing this right?"

Feeling the tears creep up into her eyes Kokoro held Yuzuyu even tighter to her, worried about the man she loved. Seeing him come off the phone she noticed his mood had gone to a complete low, and left Yuzuyu's side. "Wait right here," she told her, placing a hand on her forehead before going over to the blond. "Kippei?" she asked standing by the doorway, "What is it?"

"They..." he began keeping his head low, "Say it might be terminal." At that the woman clasped a hand over her mouth putting her arms around the man.

"You mean?" she asked as he said the name of the problem and her eyes lit open, unable to stop the tears from falling. He couldn't! There was no way. Putting her hand on his she gripped it tightly. "We'll get through it together Kippei, I promise. I'll come down to the clinic with you right now, if we work fast it won't get too bad."

"They say it already is too bad," he told her before his eyes lifted to the small girl, "Should I tell her what might happen?"

"Not until she asks," Kokoro spoke before Kippei walked over to his daughter, scooping her in his arms yet again.

"Is papa alright?" she asked, her eyes wide with interest, "Is he going to leave me?"

"Don't be silly," the man whispered, his heart beating faster, "I will never leave you."
