"You love her don't you." The voice that broke the nights silence made Ren jump as he quickly raised his head too look up at the figure standing over him. Qrow looked down at the ginger haired girl who was currently using her partner as a pillow while he gently stroked her hair.
"Yeah, I guess I do." Ren replied also looking down at the sleeping girl in his lap.
"I knew it, saw it in your eyes. I understand that you like to hide your emotions and remain quiet unless necessary but no power in the world can hide the feeling of love from someone's eyes. Trust me I know." Qrow sighed as he took a swig of alcohol from his flask.
"You were in love once?" The pink eyed boy asked intrigued by the older man's knowledge of the strange subject of love.
"Still am, I never stopped loving her even after all we went through but in the end it was her love for me that killed her. Before her I'd never felt love, almost like her running into me in that bloody forest was fate. She instantly became the centre of my universe and for the first time I had someone to open up too." The scythe wielder explained reaching into his tattered shirt pocket to reveal the faded and stained photo of his old team.
"Is that her?" Ren asked pointing out the small girl mostly hidden by her white cloak.
"Yeah that's her, the fearless leader of team STRQ, loving mother of Ruby, Miss Summer Rose. Loved by all who met her and yet out of everyone she could have had she chose me." Qrow chuckled to himself as he drank. "Anyway enough with my sob story how did you meet this bundle of energy?" He asked in order to avoid bringing up more unwanted memories.
"I lived in a small village with my family, my father would often go out on long missions that were considered unimportant to huntsmen but still needed a skilled fighter to complete them. On the day of his return while trying to find a gift for him I saw some boys bulling a small girl. Clearly she hadn't eaten properly in months and was desperate. She looked at me for help but instead I tried to run but as I turned there was my father who had seen it all. The girl and bullies ran and he scolded me for not helping. That night our village was attacked by grim, many died including my parents." Qrow gave Ren a look of sympathy as he continued his story. "Somehow my fear unlocked my semblance and I was able to go unnoticed by the grim to where I saw the girl from my own hiding place. Of course she was terrified as the grim came closer but as she gripped onto me I was also able to make her invisible to the grim. There was a wooden hammer close by and I guess that's where the idea for her weapon came from, we've been together ever since." Ren finished his story as Nora mumbled his name in her sleep.
"Wow you two really have been through everything together and yet you still fell for each other." Qrow smirked
Ren blushed and stutted "You….thhii..k she feels the sa..me way?" He looked down at his pancake munching friend his face turning a even brighter red as he thought about the possibilities of it being true.
"Of course I may just be a drunk but I'm sure everyone sees how she tells you without directly saying it. What's that thing she says then she pokes your nose?" Qrow raised his eyebrow at the teen.
"Boop… Wait does that mean 'I love you'!"
