Chapter One

"Really, Dad?"
"Is there some sort of problem, Max?"
"Yes, Dad. Yes there is. Why the heck is our new house some cruddy old bakery?"
"Ah, but Max, it's been my life's dream to own a bakery like this one…"
"Dad, you said a WEEK AGO your life's dream was to own a store. Like the one we moved to. A WEEK AGO. We just got here, and we're already moving?"
"Oh, Max, don't worry. It'll be even better than the store! Except there aren't any automatic doors," his dad said with a frown.

At least he won't waste a half hour running in and out of the doors, Max thought. Well, at least PJ can come with me. Max walked through the doors, and his father followed behind, sighing at the normal doors. It looked nice enough inside, but something felt…off.

Walking back out of the store, he looked around. A house sat next to the bakery. "Let's go meet our new neighbors!" His father spewed enthusiasm like a volcano. Sighing, Max followed along. Zoey walked beside him.

Max's father walked up to the door and rang the doorbell. He waited. And waited. The three were about to walk away when they heard shuffling inside the house. There was a creak, and the door opened.

Max stared. "Oh no. Oh no oh no oh no oh no—"
"HIYA, MAX!" Suzy shouted.

Max let out an audible groan.

"Oh, you guys know each other? Is she a friend?" Max's dad asked.
"Not even in the loose sense of the word," Max replied.

A/N: Okay, so I wanted to investigate the idea of Suzy and Max being neighbors, since they have a...unique relationship. Hopefully I'll come up with more chapters, but if you have any suggestions, please comment! I'll credit you for the prompt!
