The second part of the story starts at three a.m., the morning before they started school. The five girls who had traveled to their favorite fictional land just two weeks ago sat in a circle in the room Chevy and Cori spilt. Were they having a ritual? No, they were eating Chinese food. Yes they were eating Chinese food at three a.m. on there last day of summer vacation. Why? Because why not. Chevy, Cori and Genki were starting their senior year (even though Genki was sixteen), Blossom was starting her junior year and Heather was starting a job at the elementary school they had all attended.
Cori raised her egg roll in the air, "thank Genki's culture for this blessed food."
"I'm Japanese not Chinese," Genki rolled her eyes as she tried to use her chopsticks to get her noodles.
Chevy slurped her noodles then said, "don't you use those at home for almost every meal, haven't you mastered them?"
"Shut up." The girl blushed at the attention she was getting. She opened her mouth to say something when they heard a bang that was followed by a groan from the next room over.
The girls froze in fear. That was Honda's room and Honda worked nights, so no one should have been there. They thought maybe it was Jag but they could hear him snoring. All the girls looked to Chevy, knowing she would protect them. She held a finger to her lips and stood. She walked to the closet and pulled out a metal baseball bat. She walked back to the girls and whispered, "stay behind me. When I talk one of you shine a light on the intruders." The girls crept to the door.
Then two people started talking and more. They could hear familiar voices, but couldn't place them. The muffled voices seemed like they were from a dream that had been long forgotten.
Chevy slowly opened the door of the room that they were in and looked about. There was no one there. Slowly she crept to the room where the sound was coming from. She grabbed the knob and quietly counted down from three. The door flew open and lights were turned on.
Once the Chevy saw who was in the room she lowered her bat. "Jesus Christ." Standing there was the Curtis gang.
The two groups stared at each other for a hot second. Then Blossom yelled "Johnny!" and ran to his arms. He jumped into his arms and wrapped her legs around his waist. Johnny stumbled back but Dally stabilized him.
The gang was happy to see the girls and it seemed the girl who was happy to see the them was Blossom. Cori started to cry, Chevy and Heather looked angry, and Genki was just uncomfortable.
"Well," Chevy threw the bat over her shoulder, "I'm going to bed. C'mon Cori." The twins turned and left. Soda and Steve's hearts sank; their girls were still mad at them.
Heather turned, "I'm going to the dungeon with windows, I'll save a light on for you two." Darry was crushed, Heather was still sore.
Genki just looked down, waiting for Blossom (she didn't like being alone). "I'll wait at the steps." Genki turned and sat on the steps.
Pony decided to tell her now that he liked her. He had done nothing wrong and didn't want Genki to be alone. He sat next to her. "Genki, uh, I know this might not be the best time, but it never will be. I really like you."
Genki leaned her head on her legs and had her hands at her sides. "You're right."
"About?"
"It never will be the best time." She could feel the tears slipping down her cheeks.
"What?" He put a hand on her shoulder.
She pushed it away. "Because," she showed him the giant rock on her finger, "I'm engaged."
