The moon rose gently over the Kokiri village. To one side of this simple village where the houses were made of tree there was a little field kept for growing fruits and vegetables. A little Kokiri, named Link, had been assigned to tend to it and care for it. Link was a simple boy with long tussled blond bangs that always had a way of getting in front of his eyes. He had big, round, lonely blue eyes that always seemed to look elsewhere and everywhere at once. The Kokiri village was his home, and he loved it very much. The scent of freshly turned earth would greet him every morning adding a cycle, a balance to his life. He knew what would happen the next morning, what would greet him everyday. It was always rewarding to see that cycle interrupted by the shoot of a small plant raising its leaves up to the sun.

It wasn't that he didn't like his life; he did. Something was just missing, that's all. Adventure. Change. Of course, friends were lacking too. A young girl named Saria had been a friendly companion to him as long as he could remember. She was always kind and very friendly. However, that was not the companionship he sought. What he wished for was a fairy; a little creature that appeared to be a ball of light with wings. A fairy was a Kokiri's partner and friend for life and yet Link had never had one. It was unfair, he thought, as he stared up at the crescent moon, that he should be excluded.

A head graced by a rounded green hair poked over his shoulder. Link jumped in fright and fell head over heals into the soft loam. Saria giggled gently and helped him up. "Thinking again?" she asked with a sparkle in her eye. Link nodded slowly and looked away. He was never really spoke much because he never knew how to give voice to his feelings. Saria's aged bright green eyes shrunk sadly. "About a fairy, huh? Come with me Link. I want to show you something." Hesitantly Link stood up and followed his dear friend.

They travelled through the lost woods and were greeted by many spirits as they ran. A smile lit both their lips and their joyous giggles echoed through the woods. Little skullkid's heads poked up to see what was the matter; yet finding naught but Kokiri children they sunk back to their beds. Eventually they came to a maze and travelled through it quickly. Saria led him by the hand while their feet took off even faster. Soon they came to a small hole and grinning she pulled him into it.

With a tremendous thud they landed on the floor. A beautiful marble path way led to a small fountain. Little pinkish-red glows floated above the water. Mystified Link stepped forward drawn towards the lights. They were all fairies! A startled joyous sigh came from the youth as they began to swirl around him. His hair rose in their sweet wind. Saria smiled contentedly leaning on the wall as she watched. Soon the fairies and Link were playing, him running, them darting back and forth within the fountain fair.

What was hours seemed like minutes to the young Link. Saria's cheerful voice called him back to reality. "Link! We'd best get back. You've got an early start tomorrow." Link reluctantly left the fountain waving to his newfound friends. "None of those are your fairy," she explained slowly, "They are all healing fairies; gracious little ones who grant life and energy to those who visit them." Link nodded sadly and glanced wistfully over his shoulder at the fountain as they left.

The next morning Link woke up and went to do his farming duties. To his surprise, a young shoot had grown and opened its leaves up to the sun.
