"Looking Back II"
Written by: Melissa (Doc)
NOTES: The Looking Back series deals with six stories. Each one being dedicated to each of the main characters. These were written during the second season, so it obviously doesn't flow with the past few seasons.
Part II- CJ
CJ sat in the back of the room as everyone gathered around the TV to watch the results coming in from the election. Today is the day that they all find out if they get to stay in the White House for four more years, or if they are going to have to go home. She saw Josh standing on the far left side of the room. He seemed to be okay, he was just thinking, and maybe praying.
Sam was on the far right eating some cookies. He had his head down and seemed to be having a conversation with himself over something, which is nothing new. He does that all the time.
Leo was talking to Jed in the back of the room. They seemed to be having a deep conversation. CJ didn't want to have to go over there and interrupt them.
CJ sat there watching everyone that she had worked with for four years. When she started, she was a nervous wreck. She didn't know if she could do this, but all these people helped her. The one person that stayed by her side through everything and made sure that she was all right was Toby. She had known him for ten years. In that time, he had become her best friend. She can tell him anything, and usually does. While thinking about this, she looked around for him, but remembered watching him leave to go to his office.
Toby was one not to get emotional in front of people. CJ has only seen him cry once. That was when his divorce was final. She saw how much it hurt him to have to let that relationship go. But she was very proud of him for getting on with his life and making it as far as he did. He is her mentor and she hopes to be close by him in the future for support and love.
CJ had gone far in her life in the last four years. She has grown into a smart, sexy, and outgoing woman. She is the one that Toby was proud of. Even though he rarely says it, he is very proud.
CJ put her personal life on hold for this job, and she has never regretted it. The best times in her life have happened here. She wants another four years. She doesn't want to leave her brothers, Josh and Sam; Her uncle, Leo; or her father, Jed. And she doesn't want to have to leave Toby. One of these days, they will confide their love. She knows it, and he knows it.
"Here it is" Donna yells as she turns up the TV.
"With 70 of the vote, we are happy to announce Josiah Bartlet as the winner…." The newscaster said. Just then the whole room went up in a roar. Everyone started hugging and laughing.
CJ jumped up when Josh and Sam came over to exchange hugs.
"We did it!" Sam yelled.
CJ smiled and ran up to Jed and gave him a hug and kiss.
"Thank you Claudia for all your great work. Keep it up," He said kissing her again on the cheek.
"Yes sir."
CJ hugged Leo and remembered the most important person: Toby. She ran out of the room and headed toward his office at full speed. She opened his door and saw him standing by the window.
"70 of the vote. We won it!" She screamed and ran up to Toby. She jumped on him and hugged him harder then she ever had before. He swung her around and smiled at her. "We did it Toby."
"Yes we did," Toby said lowering CJ and looking at her face. "Another four years."
"Yeah, another four years," CJ smiled and kissed Toby on the lips, but only briefly. Then she smiled and grabbed his hand and took him back to the party.
Their dreams came true. Another four years at the White House. It is going to be a fun ride.
The End
