Disclaimer- Don't own Death Note

Light glanced over at the black haired man beside him. He was met with a sight that shocked him. He leaned closer to hear L's deep breathing.

"Ryuzaki…are you asleep?" When he received no response, he moved back and began to think.

How can he sleep like that? And during the middle of switching tapes!

He heard L move and looked at him from the corner of his eye.

"My apologies Light-kun, you know what they say: old habits die hard."

Light gave him an incredulous look.

"Ryuzaki, what could cause you to form a habit like that?"

He saw L shudder before looking at him, Light suppressed the urge to gulp at L's haunted gaze. He saw L open his mouth and say cryptically.

"Dial-up."

Light blinked. "Dial-up?" He watched L nod gravely. "Ryuzaki…how could dial-up have caused, well, you?"

L's eyes sharpened into a glare.

"Light-kun, have you ever used dial-up?" Light shook his head. "It is the most evil of all inventions. Once I had to wait three days for one file to transfer. Three Days! My eyes were bleeding, but it was necessary that I be awake when the file transferred. Thanks to my age at the time, I was highly susceptible to sugar and did not require much sleep." L reached for his tea cup off the table ahead of them and took a sip. "However, after receiving that file, I was able to solve the case."

Light guessed he was giving a skeptical look because L continued to explain.

"You see, Light-kun, with dial-up you are connected to the internet via phone lines. Information must be relayed through a secondary source; making it inferior to broadband- which doesn't have to work through the 'middle man.'"

Satisfied that Light got the message, L turned back to the computer. However, he still felt Light's eyes on him, so he began telling him a few stories.

"I used to take naps while websites loaded. I recall one website had the alphabet backwards on its load page- to keep people interested. I could also make one of those microwavable cakes, very tasty actually. There was always time for a good bathroom break- comic section and all. Even math equations or leisure reading filled up that wasted time." He looked at Light, satisfied by the horrified expression on his face. He turned back to the tape they were watching, ignoring the, now traumatized, boy beside him.

Good thing I didn't tell him exactly why we have swivel chairs.

Light, having recovered from his shock, shook his head. What a strange person. He focused his attention back on the screen, contemplating what L said about his…activities during website loading. Neither said anything until the tape was finished. They decided to call it a night and transferred to their room.

After putting on their night clothes, L had finally consented to at least wear boxers to bed, they crawled into the bed- making themselves as comfortable as possible with handcuffs attached to their wrists. The light went out and they laid in silent darkness.

Light couldn't sleep, thoughts of what you could do in the time it took for dial-up to load a webpage haunted him. Grunting slightly, he rolled over.

"Ryuzaki…"

"Mm?"

"…What other things do you think you could do in the time it took to load a website with dialup?"

The next morning Watari received a curious email from his beloved L.

Watari,

See that this building is equipped with dial-up internet before the weekend.

L

AN: So...this is the unfortunate product of two girls fangirling over Light and L. We were trying to figure out L, seriously he's got some weird habits. Both having suffered the horrors of dial-up, it made so much sense.

I hope you all enjoyed it! If not, I'm sorry?
