Outback Love
SUMMARY: Haley James gets sent to a remote country town in outback Queensland, Australia as part of her job. She meets a certain jackaroo which she cannot stand at first... NALEY. Might be rated M in the future.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own any characters from One Tree Hill.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is the first time I have written a fan fiction, so any reviews and tips would be greatly appreciated.
Chapter One: Away from Home.
Wow... this place is not exactly what I thought it would be.
Haley James had just gotten off the plane at Winton Airport after spending over 30 hours travelling all the way from Tree Hill, North Carolina. She felt beyond jet-lagged, and all she wanted to do was get into a nice comfortable bed and sleep for a week.
Upon arriving in Winton, a small rural town in outback Queensland, Australia, she had never seen red dirt and she was gobsmacked at how different it looked compared to her hometown. She wondered how she was going to survive in such a small town...
After collecting her luggage, she walked out of the airport, and wondered how she was going to get to her new place. She noticed a rugged man standing near the doors, and decided to ask him about ordering a cab.
"Excuse me sir, sorry to interrupt you, but do you know how I can order a cab?" asked Haley.
The man turned around and said "Cab? What is a cab?"
"Oh well, it's like a car that is hired to take you somewhere... you know?"
The man smiled and replied "Oh yes, we call those taxis. I can order one for you, if you want?"
Haley was quite relieved, as she had no idea how that worked in Australia. "Yes, that'd be great, thanks." said Haley.
"Sweet. What's your address? I need it to give to the taxi company."
"I have it here somewhere...yes here it is. 14 Bostock Street Winton."
The man then proceeded to order a cab/taxi for Haley. He then hung up the phone, and told her that the taxi would arrive in 5 minutes.
"Oh thank you so much."
The man said "No worries mate. I better shoot off now, so be safe will you? See you around" and then he walked off.
The taxi arrived not long after, and Haley got into the taxi. The drive to town was quite interesting, and she was intrigued by all the sights. Kangaroos, red dirt, gum trees and everything she saw along the way was so different to what she was used to back home.
This place is so different to Tree Hill. I thought it would be similar to Texas, but this has so much more country-ness. This is going to be a very interesting year.
Haley was looking forward to her new job as a high school teacher at Winton State High School. She had read about the Queensland curriculum and what was required from her as a high school teacher at Winton High. The new school year started in two weeks, and she was grateful for that time so she could settle in her new home and to get familiar with the town and people.
I'm pretty happy with this chapter, but I don't know about you guys. The next chapter will be longer, I promise you. I look forward to reading your reviews!
