Disclaimer: I don't own Holes.
Chapter 1the girl's arrival
"So this is the craphole I have to live in for the next 18 months?" I asked myself quietly as the bus rolled down a dirt road leading to Camp Green Lake, whatever that was.
As we got closer to the camp, I noticed that there were holes, everywhere. And as we got even closer, I saw the culprits.
Guys.
The judge told me nothing about there being guys. In fact, he just told me that it was an option other than jail. And I am not going to rot in prison for however many years.
The sound of the buses screeching brakes tore me from my thoughts. As I stepped off the bus, I took a look around, and then I was pushed into a cabin. Sitting at the desk was a man in his late 40's-early 50's, don't know, don't care.
"Weslee Jonson?" he asked, looking at me.
"Present." I said, raising my hand a little bit.
"Great, another smart alec." He said, "My name is Mr. Sir, whenever you address me you will call me by my name, is that clear?"
"Crystal clear, Mr. Sir." I said.
"Good, now follow me." He said, leading me to another cabin-type thing. As I set my guitar case down, Mr. Sir threw me an orange work suit. "You will get two pairs of clothes. One for work, and one for relaxation. Every third day your work clothes will be warshed and you other pair will become your work clothes. Get it?" he asked.
"Yes." I said, almost falling over behind the curtain that I was changing behind.
"You almost done in there?" asked Mr. Sir. I walked out about 2 seconds after he said that.
"Weslee Jonson, you may have done some bad things, but that does not make you a bad person, I respect you Weslee." Said a short guy with too much sunscreen on his nose. "My name is Dr. Pendanski, I'm your counselor. You will be in D tent. The D stands for Diligence." Said the short guy, leading me outside, and into the tent with a D on the side. When we got into it, there were 7 boys, all on their beds and talking about something, I don't know what.
"Weslee, this is Ricky, Alan, Jose, Theodore, Rex, Stanley, and Zero." Said Dr. Pendanski, pointing to each boy in turn. "Alright boys, this is Weslee, and she's new here. Alan, you'll be her mentor, show her the ropes. Now I must be going. Be nice boys." He said, waving and disappearing out the flaps.
"Please excuse Mom, he's kinda screwed up. My name is X-ray, that's Zigzag, Armpit, Magnet, Caveman, Squid, and we all call him Zero." Said a boy with thick, dirty glasses.
"Weslee. But everyone calls me Wes." You say, extending your hand, and the guy called Squid gets to it first and shakes it.
"Squid, and I'll be your mentor for this evening. You cot is over by mine." He said like a waiter at a fancy restaurant.
"I like you already." I said in response.
After I got my stuff put away, a bell rang throughout the camp. All the guys got up. "Chow time, c'mon." said Squid.
"Ok, be there in a sec." I said.
Maybe this wont be so bad after all. I thought as I ran out to catch up with Squid.
