It's been a little over 5 months since I last posted a story. When there are lulls in my posting frequency whether it is in between chapters of a story or in between entire stories, I always get emails or reviews asking if I am still alive.
I assure you I am alive, however, I am not working on more fanfiction, other than what you are about to read. I am now working on an original novel trilogy. I have submitted the first novel to Wizards of the Coast in response to their March 1st open call. We'll see what happens with that. I'm preparing myself for a rejection.
When that happens, I will then send the novel around to as many publishers I can think of. I'm told all first time authors (and several established authors) go through several iterations of rejections before they finally get published. I'm digging in. While the first novel is being rejected by everyone I send it to, I will be working on the second two books. If need be, I will self-publish the books, but only as a last resort and after all my other options have been exhausted.
The upshot of all this is that I won't be working on fanfiction anymore. When I told this to the last person who emailed me, he said I should post a short story on just to let everyone know why I am absent. So, 4 days later, here is a short story.
This is a departure from my normal Entreri books as it falls in line with the Entreri/Jarlaxle short stories that Salvatore has been including in the anthologies that come out once every few years. It is about the same length, and is just a fun adventure story meant to entertain. It was written in 4 days, so it might have a few errors in it, but probably not too many. I'll probably re-read it in a couple weeks and give it the final edit, but it is more than readable in its current state.
So now, after this story, and I don't post again for several months, the 37 of you who have me on author alert will know what I am doing. Not that I don't like getting emails
Take care,
Dave
