The bricks were cracked, slimy and filthy; bones littered the floors, skulls staring unseeingly through empty eye sockets. The bars were rusty, but there was a seal on them so they remained unbreakable, even to the young man trapped in one of the cells at the very end.
His hair was tangled and wild. If you didn't know his original hair color, you'd never know that his hair had once been like golden threads. His skin was bruised and dirty, but through that, there was a healthy tan with dark whiskers on his slightly hollowed cheeks. His clothes hung off of his thin frame, for he hadn't been fed since he'd gotten here-a week ago.
Footsteps echoed through the long, empty corridors and the prisoner's head snapped up. He son put his head back into its position buried in his arms resting atop his knees. He knew those footsteps and the young man didn't want to hear his voice or see his eyes.
"Naruto." A man not too much older than himself called softly through the bars.
He shifted his head slightly so he could just see the pale skin of the handsome face, the ebony locks that seemed darker than the darkness that hung in every corner of his cell.
"Can you at least listen to me?" the older man asked, a faintly frustrated tone in his voice.
"Do you have anything worth hearing?" Naruto countered, his voice hoarse and raw from misuse.
"I know you hate me right now, but-"
"You're wrong."
The
elder blinked in surprise. "What?"
"I said you're
wrong, Sasuke. I don't hate you." Naruto told him, still not
meeting his eyes.
"You should." Sasuke sat down on the grimy floor, by his cell.
"You sound like the others."
"The one time we'll all agree on anything."
"True. Why're you here?"
"To get you out."
"Good luck with that."
"What're you talking about? I stole the key." Sasuke jangled the key hidden in his sleeve.
"You think I didn't know that? I know you better than you do half the time, Sasuke." The shorter uncurled form his position, bones cracking.
Sasuke said nothing, but unlocked the cell, standing aside to let him out.
"Am I gonna find an ambush at the end of the hallway?"
"Is it that hard to trust me?"
"Through prison bars it is." Nevertheless, Naruto stood haltingly, his muscles unused to the position.
Sasuke opened his mouth to argue, but Naruto cut him across, looking him directly in the eye, "But there are no bars anymore, though, are there teme?"
