Hey guys! This is my first story. I'd love to give a shout out to the lovely sunnyandwoody for being the beta for my story. She's really great and I can't thank her enough. Enjoy guys!

Prologue: The Beginning

"Michael! Wake up!"

Michael immediately sat up as his mother relentlessly yelled at him. Still in his pajamas, Michael regretfully got out of bed. The cold floor sent a chill through his sensitive feet. Michael got dressed, forgetting about his hair.

"What is it mom?!"

Michael slowly made his way down the hallway, stopping dead in his tracks at the top of the stairs. Why is she here? He wondered. He ducked into a small corner and held his breath as Ava looked towards the top of the staircase. She shook her head and walked away.

Michael let out the breath he was holding and quickly made his way back to his bedroom. He was a mess.

After Michael fixed his hair, and changed his clothes twice (not that he would admit to that), he went down the stairs rather quickly. He had had a crush on Ava ever since he moved there and was not at all intimidated by his nervousness. He wasn't. He didn't want his mom to know if nothing was going to come of it. Honestly, he didn't even know if Ava liked him that way. In the kitchen, his mom was setting breakfast on the table.

"What's this all about?" He questioned, glancing at her, trying to keep his expression neutral.

They never had breakfast together. He was always busy and his mom was always gone for work before he even got up. The best thing he had had for breakfast lately was Cheerios.

His mother explained that Ava was starting her journey and wanted a rival, but that she also needed a friend to help her through the region. He was curious and beyond nervous, and he wanted to protest, but he listened without interrupting.

"But why me?" He whined after she was finished.

"Because Michael you know the region inside and out."

He gave his mother his best pleading look but he knew that he had already lost.

"But it's been two years," he tried.

His mother gave him a stern look and gestured to where Ava was sitting on the couch.

Michael sat down with her and took a deep breath. Here goes nothing. He told Ava whatPokémon he had chosen first and why. She listened intently and nodded. To help her with her decision, he showed her his Pokédex. She looked in awe at the device. Once he was finished, she took some time to think it over. About 10 minutes later, she told him that she chosen Snivy.
