Eleven year old Severus sat under his favorite tree in the neighborhood park. Lily came up and sat by him sooner than expected and he turned his face away as she sat down.

"So what big plans do we have for today, Sev?" she asked brightly.

"Oh, I don't know," Severus replied keeping his face turned away, "I think it's your turn to pick something."

Lily's face fell as he kept his face turned. This was a peculiar action that could only mean one thing. "Let me see it, Sev."

"No." Severus replied.

"Please?" Lily pleaded, "I can run home and get the kit and…"

"No." Severus interrupted, "Besides, that would only make it worse."

"You're right." Lily replied, "Not knowing does make it worse." She slipped around the back of the tree and tried to make him look at her, but he turned his head the other way instead.

"Please, Sev?" She begged, gently turning his chin back towards her. She gasped. He jerked away, turning the left side of his face back towards the tree.

"How?" Lily asked.

"I got in the middle of one of their fights." Severus explained.

"I'm so sorry, Sev." Lily apologized, "I thought you said they were getting better?"

"I thought they were." Severus replied. The conversation died into the awkward silence that always occurred when they discussed Severus's home life.

"Wanna know what makes it worse?" Severus asked. He continued without waiting for a response, "I don't even think it's because they don't love me, but because they don't love each other. How can they do this, "He turned his face back to Lily and gestured at the dark purple bruise still darkening on his cheek bone, "to me when I'm the one they actually care about?" Severus paused and Lily nodded her agreement, "And even more so, mum's a witch! How come she won't even heal this bruise? Doesn't she care at all?"

Lily still remained quiet.

"Wanna know what makes it better?" Severus asked, making eye contact with Lily for the first time all morning.

"What ?" She asked when she realized this question wasn't rhetorical.

"That you care enough to run and get your first aid kit, even though your parents don't like me. That you care enough to be gentle and kind, everything a mother should be." Severus dropped his eyes, waiting to see what she would say.

"Sev?" Lily asked, and he looked back up again. "My worst is nowhere near as bad as your worst, but you want to know what makes my fears and pains get better?"

Severus nodded slowly.

"Knowing that I'm not alone." Lily squeezed his hand, "Knowing that you are right with me even though magic is a powerful and strange thing. I think its magic that you are here with me and want to hang out with me. You make it easier for me to be myself." She smiled at him.

On impulse he leaned forward and pressed his lips to hers. He broke the kiss quickly, blushing. She smiled at him again, then stood up.

"I'll be back soon, but I think I really should get that first aid kit." She announced.

Severus knew that was the moment he fell in love with her, making it his best memory ever.

Slightly fluffy, but I think Snape needs good memories too. Read and Reveiw please!
