You Are My Sunshine
Antonio sat next to Lovino, his arm around the smaller man's waist. Lovino leaned into the Spaniard's side, sighing softly. Antonio smiled lightly and began to hum, pulling Lovino closer. He started to sing, resulting in the Italian looking confused before he blushed lightly.
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine," Antonio sang, pressing a kiss to the top of Lovino's head. Lovino smiled a rare smile and pressed himself closer to Antonio. "You make me happy when skies are grey," He continued, looking up at the sky and smiling. "You'll never know dear, how much I love you," Antonio pulled Lovino into his lap, holding him tightly as if he would slip away. "Please don't take my sunshine away," He finished, still smiling as a tear rolled down his cheek. Lovino looked up at him and wiped the tear off his face.
"Why do you always cry when you sing that song?" Lovino asked quietly, laying his head on Antonio's chest. Antonio ran a hand through the Italian's hair.
"Because if anyone were to take my sunshine away, I don't think I could live," Antonio said, kissing Lovino's forehead. Lovino looked down shyly. "I love you Lovi, and I won't ever let anything happen to you," He added, grabbing Lovino's hand gently and holding it to his chest.
"I love you too," Lovino said quietly, closing his eyes. He sat up, looking at Antonio. "You promise you won't leave me?" Lovino asked. Antonio smiled again.
"I won't leave you, but if I ever do, I promise I'll always come back," Antonio said, cupping Lovino's cheek with his hand and looking at his eyes.
"Why do you always look at my eyes like that?" Lovino asked. He knew it seemed like a stupid question, but he had always wondered why his lover had taken such interest to his amber eyes. Antonio giggled.
"On Lovi, you always take notice of such little things," Antonio commented. "But to answer your question-When I look into your eyes I get to see who you really are, and I love it," He answered, smiling and pulling Lovino into a hug.
~Five months later~
Lovino sat on his bed, rifling through the mail and stopping when he found a letter addressed to him. Four months ago, Antonio had been asked by the Spanish government to be a spy for Spain. Ever since then, Lovino had gotten one letter from him that was now two months old. He had been waiting impatiently for the Spaniard to get home, or at least send him another letter. Lovino had started to get anxious, but he wouldn't let the horrible thoughts and heart-wrenching nightmares get to him. After all, Antonio had promised that he would always come back. Finally, he tore open the letter. He scanned over it quickly, but stopped when he saw five words that stood out from the rest. They read: Antonio Fernández Carriedo was killed. Nothing else mattered after reading those words. Lovino let out a sob, clutching the letter to his chest as he began to cry.
"He promised he would come back," Lovino choked out, crumpling to the floor. "This isn't happening, it's not true," He said as if he could convince himself that this was all one big mistake. Lovino reread the letter again, hoping he had somehow misinterpreted it. He began to cry harder, staying on the floor and shaking.
~One Year Later~
Lovino walked down the dirt road, clutching the small glass jar filled with ashes that hung around his neck and tucked a flower in his hair.
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine," Lovino began to sing. "You make me happy when skies are grey," he looked up, tears filling his eyes as he continued down the road. "You'll never know dear, how much I love you," Lovino stopped at an open field. He took the flower out of his hair and let it blow away with the wind. "Please don't take my sunshine away," He finished, tears streaming down his cheeks as he clutched the small jar to his chest.
