Prologue: The Waking of the Dragon
Once upon a time…
The most powerful dragon in the world fell asleep. The dragon possessed the most beautiful jewels in the entire world, and he hoarded them all for himself. When he did finally fall asleep, he fell asleep in his cave, which had two rooms. There was a room full of his precious jewels, and the room he fell asleep in, which yielded the main entrance to the cave.
The dragon slept in his cave on the highest mountain in the world, undisturbed, for centuries. But, of course, one fateful day, humans found his jewels.
They had found a secret entrance to his room full of jewels, and they stole all of them as fast as they could carry them back down the mountain. The humans had not known that the jewels belonged to the dragon, and they had not seen the dragon either. They didn't manage to enter the room the dragon slept in, and thought the jewels were theirs for the taking. Still, the dragon slept on.
A season later, humans once again decided to steal jewels from this mountain, but decided to take a different path to the cave. Two inept men atop the backs of Monstrous Nightmares flew up the mountain in search of more treasure from the mysterious cave.
They soared up the side of the mountain that held the main entrance to the cave, and one of the men crept inside while the other kept watch. The man inside started to walk in, and then called back to his friend. While still walking, he stepped on the dragon's wing, and gave the dragon a rude awakening.
"Why do you wake me?" The dragon furiously asked the man. The man shook with fear, but didn't forget to respond.
"I come seeking treasure, as many loads from this mountain have been found. I wish to own treasure as well." The man explained shakily.
"Has someone stolen my jewels? I had kept them for over 500,000 years, and your species stole them from me?" The dragon asked.
"We didn't know the jewels belonged to anybody. I'll explain to my village, and the jewels will be returned promptly." The man tried to reason with the dragon.
"Oh, no. You needn't do that. I'll give your friend a message to take instead. 'Take from the dragon, and peace and prosperity will be taken from you'!" The dragon sneered. With the last comment, he blew a mountain of fire, which blew the man back to the entrance of the cave.
The man laid on the floor, barely breathing from all the burns he received, and the dragon came up to him. He turned to the other man who was keeping watch, and said: "Take my message to your village. Tell the world of what you've started! I will not be satisfied until I get what I wish: revenge!" And with that, the dragon ate the burnt man, and the unharmed man hopped atop his dragon's back and slithered back to his village in the valley below.
