1. Astoria Greengrass loves to eat and she eats like a pig. She has never been ashamed or embarassed.
Breakfast was almost over on a chilly October day. There were maybe five students left at the Slytherin table. One of them was a pretty dark haired girl - Astoria. Her uniform was undoubtedly messy from dressing in haste after a late night working on her Transfiguration homework. She piled on small amounts of everything she saw around her: an english muffin, a sunny-side up egg, a hunk of omelette, some toast, bacon, and a little bit of fruit.
From the Gryffindor table, Romilda Vane looked upon Astoria with contempt. She stood up and in an instant paraded to the Slytherin table in an extremely pompous fashion followed by two girls who seemed to stick to her like glue. A third one, with a very casual and approachable air, followed them with an amused expression of her face.
"You've always been a pig, Greengrass," said Romilda upon seeing Astoria's plate of food and watching her wolf it down. "It's a wonder you're not bursting out of your robes." Her two friends giggled. The third girl had her hands in her pockets. She was dressed as messily as Astoria and their only difference of uniform was the color of the striped scarf draped on their shoulders. Astoria's was silver and green, while the other girl's scarf was red and and gold.
Astoria didn't look up from her meal. She reached for a glass of orange juice. "Greengrass, are you deaf too?"
"Mmm," she said, finally glancing up at Romilda with big brown eyes and an arrogant smile on her face that she saved especially for Romilda. "Sorry," replied Astoria, a piece of ham in her mouth. "I was more interested in this ham than you. Besides, you should probably put some meat on those bones, Romilda," she said sweetly, but didn't have a chance to finish as the bemused girl behind Romilda stepped up and put an arm around Astoria's neck. "She's right, you know, because Harry Potter doesn't like skin and bones. Last time I saw him he was snogging Ginny Weasley," she said, twirling a piece of light brown hair in her fingers. Astoria giggled and proceeded to stuff an English muffin covered in jam into her mouth. She licked her lips, then her fingers for Romilda's sake who now wore an expression of disgust as she looked at Astoria and her friend.
"Of course, Degras. Siding with a Slytherin. You've always been a disappointment."
"And you, my dear, are a git," said Degras, grabbing a slice of bacon and plopping it on her mouth. She wiped her fingers on Romilda's robes. Romilda recoiled and her look of disgust only deepened.
Astoria grinned at Degras. "Care for a muffin?"
