Her:
With her expression somewhere between a simper and a smile, she took his hand as if to guide him towards clarity. It was a long journey back to happiness and he was still having difficulties navigating alone.
Him:
He considered her kindness and grinned slightly as her skin reminded him of a warm blanket on a freezing night; a feeling long removed. Metaphorically, a kind touch would perhaps be the only form of blanket he would ever need again. The warm, overlay of someone who'd experienced a small portion of how he felt now.
He raised his arm as a welcoming gesture and she nestled into his chest willingly. His warmth was overpowering.
Her:
As their bodies molded together on the small couch, the warmth she felt in her cheeks whenever he touched her, could suddenly be felt at all points where they touched.
She knew this was nothing more than a friendly gesture but the burning of his skin against hers was so soothing it tempted her with forever; with meant to be. She knew it. Why didn't he?
She sighed. She knew that he was emotionally unattainable; mentally, painfully, hypnotically unattainable. Above all else, she knew he was in love and she herself was not the prize to be won.
Him:
He closed his eyes, pretending the lovely girl who rested on his chest was the one who held his attention. Her skin was darker and softer. Her hair was shorter and neatly swept in a way hers never was. The girl that lay with him breathed evenly. A less anxious breathing than he was so usually accustomed to. The thought of different was slightly comforting, as a slow rush of cooling water would feel to a burn.
His eyes opened. This was wrong. More so, this was hypocritical.
I don't mind you know. She spoke. Had she read his thoughts? No. She was only human. His eyes shifted but did not glance down towards her. Her face would be innocently and unintentionally persuading.
I'll make a nice band aide. I only ask for the same in return. Her breathing remained steady, as did his. He stroked her arm, closing his eyes again to imagine a paler, silkier, more familiar surface to caress.
