"I want a cat."
Tadashi looks towards Gogo after speaking. Seriousness isn't something he's known for as he's more fun and games but his expression bleeds unwavering earnest. Gogo shakes her head if only to make herself feel better yet she is aware she's fighting a losing battle because Tadashi's a smooth talker
The two had been dating over six months now and Gogo labeled herself as an honorary houseguest after the first two with how much time she spends there (doing more than mere study dates). So she knows too how he works, what makes him tick, and she figures the last thing he needs is one more distraction-that being a cat.
Tadashi doesn't fail in keeping his expression either, which riles her up. She chalks up this crazy impulse to missing Mochi, his aunt's overweight calico. Albeit, a cat was out of the question.
"You can't get a cat, Tadashi," she says, and hopes her tone gets through to him.
He shrugs amicably. "Come on, Gogo. What's wrong with a cat? They're low maintenance. All you do is clean their litter box, feed them, and love them."
Gogo still isn't impressed and she clicks her tongue before saying, "It doesn't matter. It's still more money you have to fork out for food and litter. Then there's vet bills and getting it spayed or neutered. Too much of a hassle."
Tadashi shrugs yet again, which gets her more frustrated. He was more stubborn than a mule and she's realized she has no say in this fight. Not that there was a fight to begin with. This was his house and who was she to tell him no?
"Well, your choice then, babe," she says, throwing in the towel.
He immediately smiles, instantly pulling out his phone, and when he holds the device out for her, a tiny gray and white cat with bright green eyes looking a few months old fills up the screen.
"That is Kitty. She doesn't have a name yet but she was found at only a few weeks old and she needs a home. I've been talking to the foster family and I'm meeting them Saturday, and you know, I'd really like for you to come," he says, swiping his finger across the screen. This reveals numerous photos of said kitten and Gogo thinks he's lost his mind.
"You're kidding right?"
She now becomes frustrated again in realizing Tadashi has been looking into getting a cat without her knowledge. Maybe the topic never came up. Maybe he knew she would fight him about it. Maybe he wanted to surprise her. Maybe she was over thinking, like usual.
As the photos end, she agrees with him on the high level of cuteness the tiny cat possesses and silently prays Kitty gets a good name once Tadashi picks her up (if he does). So she pecks his cheek and tells him he can expect her to come Saturday. He beams at this and it's his turn to wrap his arms around her neck and kiss her full on.
Maybe cats weren't so bad after all.
