Sleep is over rated he thought as he leaned over and put all his weight on one muscular arm. He cradled his blonde head and smiled. He could never get enough of her. She sleeps like a child he thought with a smile as he watched the steady rise and fall of her chest and listened to the slight snore she made as she dreamed and knew he'd never seen anything more beautiful. He knew he was being sappy, probably would have wanted to kick himself for it not too long ago, but something about her was magical. From the moment she had stormed into his life, all spit and fire he'd lost himself completely. He traced her face with the gentlest of touches regretting the callouses on his fingertips, the life of a shadow hunter he thought wish a grimace. Too many hours handling weapons. He sighed and tucked the blanket up around her. He ran his fingers over one of her curls and closed his eyes, thanking the lord for her. He had been in darkness before her, she was like a ray of light coating his soul and he realized he'd never even known he was lost before her. He never realized he was shut down and cut off from almost everything. It had been like breaking the surface of the water after almost drowning. Jace smiled, something he did often now, and wrapped himself around her. He traced the angelic power rune on her neck as the scent of her lavender body wash filled his nostrils. He wondered if she ever regretted becoming a shadow hunter. He wondered if she ever missed her mundane life. He hoped she never regretted meeting him. She stirred at his touch but didn't wake and he laid his head down beside hers. He prayed she never regretted loving him. He hadn't known real love, the unconditional kind until her and he prayed he never lost her. He knew as surely as he knew her every mood that he wouldn't survive if she were gone. He pulled her closer and she stirred, he tried to hold still, not wanting to wake her but he felt her face lift in a sleepy smile beside his own. Her hand raised and stroked his hair cupping his head. Clary's head turned toward him and he caught sight of the marriage rune over her heart revealed by the low cut of her sleep tank. He smiled as she traced the matching one on his arm with her free hand. Even after six years of marriage he never tired of her touch or the sound of her voice, even when they argued he knew he'd rather argue with her than be with anyone else.

"You were staring at me again" she said with a smile, eyes still closed "That's weird, I think we need to get you some help with that."

Jace snorted, and nibbled her ear "But I love looking at you." He said softly making her shiver.

Clary popped one eye open "why," she said grumpily " I have bed hair and It is 3am, I must look hideous."

Jace leaned in and took her lips gently "You are beautiful no matter what." He said as he pulled away slowly. He ran his hand over her rounded stomach, feeling the strong kick in response. "You both are."

Clary smiled and turned into his arms, the words "I love you" sliding off her lips as naturally as breathing. She lost herself in his touch, thanking the angel once again for the gift that was Jace Herondale.
