"Hey, Momoko."

Momoko looked up from her newspaper. "What is it, Haruka?"

Haruka leaned forward, keeping her voice low. "How come he lets Kenta get away with it?"

"What are you talking about--" Haruka made a shushing sound as she pointed across the room. Kenta was hovering over Akira, making sure all the buttons on his jacket were secure before they went out errand running. Akira was complaining, but not resisting as they left together.

Momoko gave it some thought. "Well, he does miss his mother. Maybe he likes having someone fuss over him like she would?"

"Nah." Haruka shook her head. "Remember the last time I suggested he wear a coat because it was cold out? Not only did he tell me to 'screw off', he wound up freezing for the rest of the day just to try and spite me."

"You have a point there." Momoko rested her head on her hand. If it wasn't because he wanted a substitute parent, then the only logical conclusion could be...

"He has a crush on Kenta!"

Haruka gaped at her. "You're kidding!"

"No, think about it. It explains why he lets him take care of him when he's hurt, touch him all the time, and make sure he's bundled up before he goes out into the cold," she added with a touch of pride.

Her friend was silent for a long time... and then a grin slowly spread on her face. "I guess you and I were way off when we were trying to figure out what kind of girl he would like, huh?"

Momoko and Haruka spent the rest of the day trying to figure out what Kenta and Akira were doing on what they had decided was really a date disguised as an errand run.
