Looking Back Into the Shadows

"Where have you been? I've been looking for you all over the place." Aeryanna demanded angrily.
"No where."
"Liar.Liar pants on fire!"
"Am not!"
"Yes, you are baby."
"Stop calling me that!"
"Well you lie and then you act like a baby."
Ian jumped to his feet, a metallic clang sound at their feet. Looking down Aeryanna saw a recording chip. Ian quickly reached down and grabbed it up and backed away from her.
Aeryanna looked at his hands and asked."Where did you get that?"
"No where."
"Ian, don't lie."
"I found it. It's mine."
"What's on it?"
Ian stopped near the door and looked at the black and red marking. He didn't say a word.
"Ian, did you even bother to see what is on it before you stole it?"
Angrily Ian snapped. "I didn't steal it! I found it on the upper tiers!"
"You went up there by yourself?" Aeryanna asked astounded.
"No, I had my DRD and 1812. I told Pilot. I just wanted to explore." His voice faded as he once more study the chip.
"What's wrong, Ian?"
"I played the chip."
"And.?"
Ian looked fearful at his sister. "Aery, Mommy is on it.and another man."
"What man? Do you mean another Peacekeeper?"
"Yeah."
"Well, Mommy was a Peacekeeper and she did know other men before Daddy." Aeryanna explained. She had heard Chiana talking to D'Argo about destroying a chip before either of her or Ian could find it. She never understood what could have been on it and for some reason it scared her to ask.
"I asked Mommy once what she was like as a Peacekeeper."
"What did she say?" Ian eagerly asked.
"She looked real sad and then said that it was best to leave the past in the past."
"What does that mean?" Ian frowned.
"It means that it hurts to much to remember. I asked Daddy and he said to leave it be. If Mommy wants me to know she will tell me."
"Oh."
Aeryanna once more approached her brother. "What is Mommy doing with this man?"
"Things."
"What kind of things?"
"Like Mommy's and Daddy's do in their room."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
Knowingly, Aeryanna motion Ian over to the wall, where she pulled open a small door. "Here is where that past belongs."
Hesitating Ian study the chip again. "Aery, I found others but .do you want to throw them all away?"
"Yeah. Who wants to look back into the dark shadows of Mommy's past?"
Ian tossed the chip into the chute, and then he said furiously. "Come on lets get the rest so no one can say Mommy is a bad person."
Aeryanna followed him out. "Anyone that knows Mommy knows that she a good, loving person. She's the best Mommy in the universe."
John and Aeryn stood just around the corner as the children left. A tear ran down Aeryn's face as John held her close. How in Goddess name did they get to be so blessed?
